I know there are some guys here and I am sorry but this is a question for the ladies :-))
So since having the girls I have not gone back on hormonal birth control, I'd been on hormonal since 16. Unfortunately this means I get migraines, ob won't give what I want and is insisting on some sort of implant when I want the shot, has anyone successfully managed hormone related migraines after pregnancy? I will gladly accept any suggestions as I currently have a sick baby and I'm having trouble coping when I'm not at work. -
I would avoid the implant, I had the worst experience with it. The first two months were fine, but then I started having a period for 3 weeks, one week off, then another 3 week period. That continued for about 5 months when the doctor finally decided it was not going to even out, and decided to take it out. But by that point it had migrated (somehow) and gotten lodged deeper in my arm, and took three hours, multiple numbing injections, and a 2 inch incision to remove. I’ve heard so many other horror stories about the implant.
The Paragard IUD is hormone free, even though it works the same as a regular hormone IUD.Thanked by 1Amgr1992 -
Thank you FallenShadows! I actually had the paragard before I ever had hormonal birth control and it started to become embedded in my uterus. I've heard so many bad things about the implant as well!

In my own experience, the shot gave me migraines, and I had never experienced one before I had the shot. Pills were meh, with nuvaring I had no side effects. My doctor talked me into the mirena iud a view years ago, and I will say that it has been my favorite hands down. No headache, no weight gain, no periods, and it really calmed by PMS moodiness down.Thanked by 1Amgr1992

The shot has cancer related concerns if you are on it too long, and most doctors will not allow it after X amount of time.
I preferred the Nuvaring to other options once I could no longer have the shot and would definitely prefer it to the implant if that is an option. I will say I had some issues with it staying in place....so if you are indulging in exuberant.....activities.....check the bedding afterwards to make sure it hasn’t come out!Thanked by 1Amgr1992 -
@Cheers I am dying, that is one of the most sensitive ways to phrase something for all ages/groups of people!

For me, I would never use Paragard because I really don't like the idea of copper toxicity. But I have health issues that make copper and IUD scarring/embedding very worrisome.
I have no issues with the implant but I would MUCH rather have breakout bleeding than an embedded IUD.
I would not do the shot either because it is irreversible.
The right answer is the one that works best for you, but the safest birth control in the world for women is the male vasectomy. ;) Go with that if your family won't be having more.

I have been on a low hormonal birth control pill for a little over a year and have had no issues with it. (Besides it turned me into a cryer)
My advice is actually for your migraines. I would highly recommend going and seeing a chiropractor for them. Why? Headaches and migraines are commonly caused by the neck being out of alignment. I have headaches/migraines fairly often. Whenever I get adjusted my headache will vanish almost instantly. It’s just something you could try. -
Thank you everyone! Ammit I am in the process of switching over to a new OB :) I wasn't aware the shot is irreversible as my best friend has a little boy a few months younger than then the girls who came after she stopped her shots! Thanks for the heads up! I also very much need to see a chiropractor BlaxkDiamond! I have for awhile now due to me over using my dominant side while riding, plus the pregnancy I'm even more off! I will ask about the nuvaring as well! I was actually really sick on the pills so we decided to stop them, though at that point I was already unknowingly pregnant :))

I haven't been on anything in years as hunny got snipped, but amongst my mom friends the ring has gotten the highest review here the last couple years, still followed by the no hormone iud.
I hope you have the best of luck with finding a new ob who will work with you. That's the important thing.45120 -
I know nothing about birth control but i just wanted to reiterate what Ammit said about getting a new doctor. Unless there are legitimate major concerns about your preferred birth control, the doctor should give you want you want.#28036
