Will open Nexus ever be in the GMT lab?
-
I would love to build a Nexus herd but can't spend real money very often as I have a family to care for first. Is the only way for me to breed my own herd to just buy lined horses from the auction?
-
Sadly I don't think it would be put in the GMT lab.. fantasy genes will always cost money.
You could buy lined horses from auction and build that way. Some people will cull their nice lined foals just because they have too many of that particular color or it missed a particular gene needed to pass the cut. Several excellent breeding ponies have been acquired that way for me. Just add nexus to your search criteria when looking for auction horses and it will bring up all horses in the auction that carry at least one copy of nexus. It might be hard to be picky on colors/age/gender/and so on this way though but still useful if you are willing to work with what is avaliable.
You could also shop for or borrow a nexus stud you like and use that to proliferate nexus into your herd. Depending on stud used and how many copies of nexus they have (1 or 2), you'd have a chance at 100% heterozygous nexus (if a homozygous nexus stud is used) or roughly 50% heterozygous nexus foals, 50% non carrying foals (if stud used is heterozygous). If you put the heterozygous nexus foals back to each other (or back to sire if you aren't picky about even breeding) for chances at 3rd generation homozygous nexus foals. That is another way of building a nexus herd.
As a last resort, it is 7.50$ per copy of nexus.. possibly could put nexus on a foundation boy you like then you'll have that boy for the rest of his breeding career and make all the nexus babies you want :-) Again, following the same statistics as above.
I don't have nexus on a boy (I think- will look) otherwise I'd offer you a breeding loan so you can add nexus to your herd. It really is such a pretty gene- there needs to be more nexus love!
I hope this is helpful! Best of luck in building your nexus herd!

Depending on whether you’re intending to breed unevenly, I have a hom Nexus stallion (unevenly bred) that I can send you straws from for 1hb, once he’s of age :) or just put him up for stud for you once he’s done with my small Nexus pasture! Let me know :)
This is him:

@WingedEagel88 I added you to my chat, 425, and put a stallion up for you there :) I hope you like him!

Thank you both.

@BellaVoce he is amazing! Thank you so much! You did not have to do that! I don't know what else to say! :D :D 8->

@WingedEagel88 you’re welcome! I got some help with my first big herds, and I am just passing the love along :) I hope he’s an excellent foundation stud for you!

You're welcome to check my lined nexus horses, see if there's anything that you're absolutely in love with. I'm switching gears with this herd, and most are heterozygous, but I'm open to discussion on almost all of them.

I have some nexus in auction- I went through my barns culling yesterday and a lot of what I have in there is breeding age. I know I have a really nice A papered stallion in there that I wasn’t going to use (he’s also got KitM and het ice 1), plus a few mares with some fancier genes like S+, liver, and ice 1. I also have another A papered stallion in there as well. Both boys have PT of 11.40.
