Bonus of 2 show horses for also including books you would recommend reading this christmas break.
Preferences on recommended books
Cheap on bookbub, kindle, amazon, at my library etc.
Horses
Fantasy
Sci Fi
No romance
Action packes
Also the best and second best story will get 500k100kcash bonus! (Maybe more depending on my cash, and how many people post). The highest weight of criteria for winning will be "percieved effort". Mostly this will be on length. Then after that it will be how creative it is. Then the final criteria will be how much I enjoyed it.
No set in stone timeline. But I will probably either leave this open until I get off on Christmas break Dec. 13ish, because otherwise the only other time I would have to manage this is Monday before I go back to school.
Although this is a free write and you can write about ANYTHING you want, sometimes people will get inspired by looking through my show ponies and seeing their ridiculous names. Otherwise, maybe a Severus Snape placed in the Star Wars universe! (I personally like Severus Snape and think he would be on the
"good" side, but if you want to make him a Sith Lord or something I won't complain). The other thing I've been craving is a good horse story. I can only remember maybe one book in my whole life with a rider riding a horse and it captures the amazing feeling of riding a horse!
Thank you friends!Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Idk about writing a story as I can only manage to stay on task to write a short poem but I can recommend books for you. :) Because books are amazing and I love to read especially about horses. National Velvet is a wonderful book along with the Cloud Stallion of the Rockies Books. Other books I'd recommend is Shy Boy, the Lonesome Dove books, the horse whisperer, as well as any and all Marguerite Henry Books. The phantom stallion books are amazing as well I loved them as a young teen and probably still would as a 30 year old. :) Idk if you will be able to find them on the media platforms you are looking for but I always find a good book or two at the thrift shops but I don't think Kindle reading is as enjoyable as cracking open a book especially a good used book. Like the smell of horse sweat and leather there isn't a smell like a musty old book that has been well read and well loved idk I'm old school like that. Lol I know I probably won't qualify for your give away because I didn't write a story but I hope you find something good to read out of the recommendations sent to you. Enjoy reading and your winter break!
All the best-

Here's part of an RPG I was helping to write. :) It hasn't gone far and has turned more into exploring aspects of character development. Hope you enjoy!
“You gave me twice this much last time.” The boy frowned at the fist of coppers he held in his tarry, calloused hand. It had been hard, working with the two older boys moving the heavy crates of salt and cloth from the small galley to the trading platform while the bigger folk rolled barrels of water and dried fruit into their place. He was hungry and drenched in sweat and had come nigh to being run over twice; but getting an on-deck job would pay better and he had to work for that job—so he didn’t complain about all that.
“That’s all I can give you, boy. Curse Loherin for leaving port late, if you like, but every one of my men has a family to feed. Send half of that to your mother and I’ll see if I can do better for you next time.”
“You SAID you would hire me— ”
“I SAY off with you!” They had been through different versions of this conversation multiple times over the past six months. The first mate liked the boy’s persistence but there was nothing that could be done now. The captain wasn’t taking extra hands, especially not lads with so little muscle. He didn’t exactly have time for this either—the captain wanted all ready to sail with the next tide. With a thin, smoking cigarette clenched between the teeth of his right jaw, the mate spun the boy round with one hand and shoved him up the dock. When the Gondorian boy turned back around the sailor threw the frayed, knotted rope, which he’d been carrying, into his arms. And still the boy tried.
“I can—”
“Learn that twist and fix the ends. That’s what you can do before we get back into port. Merrin docks tomorrow. He’ll have work for you and I’ll see you in four weeks.” The first mate’s face, already tanned with sun, was darkening with annoyance so Anre said nothing. The sailor turned and moved away to answer calls from his fellow crewmen and the boy started to walk up the pier towards the city. The discussion was over—for now.
Presently, Anre shouldered the rope to free his other hand and slip the coin into a pouch that hung just below the frayed neckline of his shirt; a loose, red thing with wide arms that the traders had cast off. It was worn nearly threadbare and fit him better as a tunic that he gathered about his waist with fishing twine. The shirt covered a pair of trousers—it mattered little to him whether their original color had been brown or dark green and there was no real way of distinguishing all the shades present. He had no boots or foot gear of any sort for the simple reason that they were not worth the cuts and bruises he took fighting to keep them.
“Anre? Anre, lad!” The boy stopped short and tried to locate whoever was calling. He knew his friends on sight and there weren’t a lot of dockhands around that went by his name or knew it.
“Here I am!” He finally shouted in answer above the crowd. He had repeated himself twice more when he heard the calls before he jumped at the feel of a hand on his shoulder.
“Easy lad, it’s just me.” It was the old candle-making woman who lived just a little ways down. She’d been buying some of the cloth he’d helped to unload and had waited patiently until the first mate dismissed him. She’d never been unkind to him, though so many elders were often…overly kind (which was worse), so Anre did his best not to—well—act like there were other places he wanted to be.
“Yes ma’am.”
“I’ve a task for you, if no one else has work for you today. You’ll get your due at the finish of it.” Now she had his full attention; he’d had a relatively decent breakfast and could put off food for a little longer.
“What do you wish me to do?”
“Take this wool cloth and these packets of herbs to my sister in Cornhill. Her shop door is green and is the only one with flower boxes to either side. I’d ask my son to do it but he’s on the other side of the city; you know him as Kalendril here on the docks, he speaks well of you. She needs these herbs especially quick—she’s not well so knock at the door, tell her I sent you and place the things on the stoop. She’ll give you something to bring back to me. Understand?” He could hear the worry in her voice at this last as she passed the small sack to him. He bound the rope to his side with the twine so that he could shoulder the sack.
“ Yes ma’am. Don’t worry, I’ll get them to her.” The old woman smiled and waved him off. As he trotted along he was just happy she hadn’t done the matronly thing and patted his head. What's more, the old man he bought food from and left his things with lived in Cornhill. He could stop and pick them up, after delivering the sack, and be able to go straight "home" after remeeting the the old woman.
-
The boy trotted along each of the roads through Cornhill, looking at the houses carefully. He came upon the old man’s house first, a simple one-room hut, and knocked, thinking to be quick about picking up bread and his bag. An old tanner and friend of his father’s, the man called Tallon was half deaf, but nowhere near dead, so Anre wasn’t worried about having to knock once again and louder before the lashed planks swung inward.
His hair was black shot with silver and his creased face was as roughed and tough as what he had traded in before his lungs and hearing began to fail him. Close on five and a half feet, he still had enough muscle and presence in his frame to command the respect that Anre would have shown a captain. He had finished his career doing more smithing than tanning.
“First mate didn’t give me much for the work today.”
The old man said nothing, but shrugged, and motioned the boy inside to the spot where a light sack sat. It contained only a flask of water, two small torch bundles, a short knife, a stone and a flint. Anre undid the frayed rope from the twine and the old man received it, putting it in a different sack—essentially Anre’s schooling sack when he had time for it. Papers with drawings of knots and rope twists and that sort of thing.
And that was nearly it. Anre gave the man half of the coppers from the pouch, some of which would be sent in due time to his family without Anre knowing, and the man gave Anre a dried apple and half a small loaf of bread and turned him out before the boy could protest about being given too much. Anre’s calls to the closed door went unanswered; the man was already sitting in the only chair at the other side of the dark hut and he would not move again until he was ready to. So, munching the apple and tucking the bread into the right sack, the boy strode the quicker down the way looking for the right house. He could pay the man back one way or another later.
A lot of people were gathered in the road when he finally found it several blocks down and around a corner. Some were closer to his side and all sorts of talk floated in his direction, in many languages. Someone’s boy had fallen into the sewers. Poor mate. Anre hoped he wasn’t hurt as the lad passed by a gathering of uniformed men standing around the entrance, trying not to get in the way. Another three doors down and there was the door, a drab forest green with dark lintel and posts—and flowers which needed water days ago. He did as he was told and the sack of cloth and medicine was exchanged for a small oak fox; it fit in his hand. He turned to go but a pale hand stayed him. The gray face and sad eyes he could see through the cracked door disappeared, but soon returned with a citrus-like fruit and two copper coins. She smiled weakly and closed the door. This second occurrence of—kindness—left Anre feeling torn and he wondered if he should mention it to the candle-making woman who had charged him with the task. They were all in their own rough roads and Anre only wanted to earn what he kept.
As he started to walk back, he saw the men around the sewer entrance begin to descend into it.
‘Why should they need to do that?’ He wondered, and remembered why he would be going home by a different entrance later. A woman, of all people and in a sort of panic, had just slipped down, when he came closer and spoke to those still above ground.
“Is he in deep then? I hope you don’t have to go far seeing as the tide’ll be coming in soon. We’re still about level to the waterfront—I mean.”
There was a well-buit one with a shock of red hair that smelled of old drink, very faint against the reek of this part of the sewer, but he at least looked like he had some idea of what he was doing. The others Anre wasn't so sure about. One of them even looked his age or one or two years less. -

Book recommendations:
**Watership Down (adventure/drama about rabbits- warning it can be pretty dark and gritty at times but the character developments and plot is on point)
**My Side of the Mountain (a boy runs away and lives in the CatSkills off the land- my FAVORITE book as a child and to this day still) There are a few sequels but this book is what shaped my childhood and who I am today!
**The RedWall series by Brian Jacques (fabulous fabulous stand alone books but are interconnected with each other with some characters popping up in a few books- think otters, badgers, mice, moles and other peaceful creatures with their own cultures, way of going and so on that have to go on a quest or mission to fight a villian (could be a fox, stoat, rat) I can't say enough about these books! I would start with Redwall first then I think Mossflower... Mattimeo, Mariel of Redwall.. and umm... I can't remember the next book in the series but seriously they are all stand alone and you don't need to read in order. I think there was 22 or 23 books!
**OH! There were 2 books by Brian Jacques and I think it was supposed to be part of a series but sadly was never finished. IT is called Castaways of the Flying Dutchman and the Angel's Command. A boy and his lab (Dan and Ned??? I think) were trapped on the Flying Dutchman when it was cursed. The book tells about their adventures and quests.. I really enjoyed reading them!
Those are just a few off the top of my head. I am sure I have more books squirreled away but don't remember where I put them or what I do have LOL. These books are near and dear to my heart though and I can't suggest them highly enough!
I will have a story later on.. just need to dig through my archives and dust one off (-as in finish it up-) :-)Home of the:
*The Dark Side of the Moon
*Den Röda Linjen
*The Legacy (bootstraps)

I barely read, and don't write much, but one book I recommend to anyone is Fahrenheit 451. I can s see the pictures in my head from that book, and I read it over 8 years ago. I wish I still had it, but the irony is... it's a book about banning books and burning them. Well... Alabama has banned Fahrenheit 451 for some reason...Love,

This is the beginning of a longer story I haven't gotten around to finishing. Now that I'm stuck at home for a couple weeks with a broken arm, I might work on it some more. I imagine This will be the prologue for the story.
"This is Carson Jones reporting for KTRB News. I'd like to update you on the reported dragon situation." He looked up and scanned the skies. The camera panned to the sky as a large dark shape flew over their heads.
With a shaky voice, the man continued,"There are hundreds or thousands of them. Sightings have been reported all over as the creatures continue their flight westward. Laguna Pueblo has reported significant damage to their herds of sheep and cattle as the dragons have swooped in and grabbed the animals.
"We are now live at Sky City, the ancestral home of the Acoma. For the first time in over a thousand years, this city has failed to stop an invasion. The local residents are busy trying to put out the fires the dragons caused when they landed on the mesa top."
He paused again and scanned the sky again before continuing, "The flock of dragons has been sighted flying northwest toward Mount Taylor. KTRB news-copter is flying to the scene now. Stay tuned for more live coverage as the story unfolds."
More images flashed across the screen as the old man turned down the volume. He lay back in his hospital bed with a smile. His plan had worked. With his lifelong mission accomplished, he could die in peace knowing that his family was finally free.
As far as books go, do you like horse mysteries. Like Dick Francis? He does some awesome British horse racing related mysteries.

The following is a true story about my mule. She is currently 26 years young, and still a trouble maker. This happened when she was barely three years old. I was lucky enough to be stationed at a post where I could keep her with me.
The Beaches of Shy Ann
In early 1996 the monster taught herself a new trick that she loved, but caused alot of problems for me and almost all of the stable area. Just about this time Garth Brooks put out the song Beaches of Cheyenne which helped us create a title for Shy's latest stunt.
One morning, I arrive at the stable, and feed and water both Hobo and Shy then drive over to my work at the vet clinic. About an hour later I get a call from the stable manager " I think you forgot to turn off the water faucet in front of your mule's pen. The water was running when I went down to check on something. I turned it off for you so you don't need to come back and turn it off" I'm now thinking "Ok I'm pretty sure that I turned it off." After lunch that day I get another call from the stables. "Did you come back and turn the water on during your lunch?" I replied "No, why?". The response was "Your water was running again." At that point we were thinking it was a human culprit. With more that 50 privately owned horses and 25 B Troop 4th Cavalry horses, there were people coming in and out of the private stables almost all day long. But after several more days of having a water faucet turned on I decided to cover that water faucet with a tall metal trash can. That seemed to stop the water leaking for a while. We thought we had the problem solved. Unfortunately, Shy turned her attention to the water hose. I came down to feed one evening and saw Shy with a 3-4 foot length of water hose in her mouth. She was at the back of the pen away from the water faucet where the hose was not supposed to reach! She had chewed off this chunk of hose to play with. Hobo was on the far side of his stall next door watching her carefully. Shy was waving that section of hose around like a whip. Maybe she thought it was a great tool for swatting flies?
The problem with covering the water faucet is that it hides when the water gets turned. So the next time the water got turned on, it flooded about half the private stalls and everyone though we had a broken water pipe. We finally traced it back to Monster's stall and the covered water faucet.
The Monster had learned to use her lips to turn on the water faucet, After we covered it with the trash can, she learned to spin the trash can with her nose until the ribs of the trash can would catch the handle of the faucet and turn it on. In order to stop the monster from continuing to to turn on the water faucet, We had to duct tape the handle down tight and then to keep her from eating the tape, we had to put the trash can back over it to cover it. Now she could turn the trash can all day long but never flood the stable again.
At least she hasn't learned to open gates yet. Oh Yea that will be another issue in the "Monster chronicles", but first there is the issue about her learning to untie herself and go wandering.
