Name My Rabbit Line
-
So here the name of the game.
I'm starting a rabbit. My rabbitarty name of course is Make Me A Bird.
This line of rabbit is Champagne D Argent. Wish I know how to upload photo on here but I don't. So they start out jet black then their coat slivers out as they age and get whiter as the age too. Kinda like the grey gene. But the jet black stay around their eyes, ears and nose.
What am I looking for? A theme generation name. My friend breeds them and she used the names of silver Smith. Im kinda looking for a theme like we do in horse line so we know where they came form.
I'm open for anything. I would like it to be simple ,classy and easy to work with.
What will you win for all this trouble. What more fitting then a new line of your own. You get a tio of genetics you have always wanted. One stallion and 2 mares. I can either help you get your foundations tio or use some my RS that havnt been breed. I can turn a mare into stallion if need be. This is vauled to 30.00 dollars. You can spend it all on one horse or the tio. How every you like.
This will run until the end of the month at midnight. I have a feeling the gene will be all open to buy around Christmas. I'm will to wait till your gene is around.
As far as I know I can gift closed genes too.
Please show case the name with a few examples. -
Oooh!
I just looked them up and they are lovely!
Will you be breeding just the black variant or all of the colour variants?
I am not great with names (and I am not sure if this is what you are looking for) but off the top of my head the first thing that came to mind, focusing on the "Champagne" factor, was:
"A Bit O' Bubbly"
or "Bubbly Birds"
or "Bird's Bubbly"
So "A Bit of Bubbly Benjamin" or "Bubbly Birds Braken", or "Bird's Bubbly Jenny".
ID# 47364
Breeding for all version of black drafts using chimera foundations.
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
Have you heard of the book Watership Down? It's about rabbits and the names are very unique. I used to have a rabbitry of my own called Klein Widder Rabbitry but i stopped breeding and showing for now :) But i liked the idea of using the book to name my rabbits after the characters
Some of the names include:
Thlayli
Bigwig
Hazel
Fiver
Holly
Hyzenthlay
Thethuthenang
and more!
The best part is, if you have more than one buck, you can name them after the leader in each warren in the book and have mini lines as part of the whole main line.
Ex. Name one buck Woundwort and name the rabbits bred to and sired by him after rabbits from the Efrafan rabbits
Name another buck Threarah and name the does bred to him and the kits sired by him after the Sandleford rabbits.
Here is the wikipedia page to the list of characters:

Ive always wanted to start my own rabbitry! (I sadly live in an apartment right now, so that's not possible. :(( )
I will be updating this list periodically! :)
Here are some name suggestions:
Silver Bird
Laissez faire (or similarly Birds Laissez faire. I used the idea of metal and came up with industrial Revolution type names- the possibilities are endless!)
ADALWIN- ancient German for "Noble Friend".
Something to do with Dionysus?- Greek god.
Dionysus is the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking and wine, of fertility, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre in ancient Greek religion and myth. All future babies could be based off of him, or they could be Greek gods. -
@BlackWyld The American Rabbit only counts the two colors. Champagne which is the silver black or cream which is called Creme D Argent. I believe. One day I'll add the cream but they are very rare and hard to find around here.
@AHayesHorses
No, I never read that book but I will be know. LolThanked by 1AHayesHorses -
Since it will be Make Me A Bird, you could go with birds. Each line or generation could have a different theme
Shorebirds: Make Me A Bird Avocet, Curlew, Piper, Dunwit, Jaeger, Puffun, etc.
Raptors: Make Me A Bird Peregrine, Eagle, Merlin, Harrier, Osprey
Marshbirds: Make Me A Bird Gallinule, Limpkin, Sora, Crane
Ducks: Gadwall, Garganey, Eider, Teal, Wigeon
Tropical: Gannet, Anhinga, Cormorant, Toucan
With an Audobon guide you could go on forever :)
Watership Down was always a favorite of mine when I was a kid.Thanked by 1AHayesHorses -
I'm not sure where you're from, but where I grew up we had a yogurt brand called Trix. Their mascot/logo was a rabbit, and the tagline in their commercials was "silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!" I've had rabbits and I'm planning to name my next one Trix. So anyway, maybe something involving the word Trix or Tricks?
-
You could do a mix of the above suggestion, and your user? "Bird Trix", or "Trix a Bird", or "Rabbitrix".Love,
Chase ♡ -
My idea is to use different metals as a reference to each line, and a letters of the alphabet to refer to each generation of rabbit. Stones or metals like Iron, silver, marble, tin, aluminum, emerald, sapphire exc. Whenever you do get to add a cream to your line you can use red/gold color metals, gold, copper, topaz, citrine exc. The idea with the stones is to do similar colors to show the line. The first letter of their name will refer to what generation they are.
Example
Doe1 Silver America (gray/silver)
Doe2 Emerald Astra (green)
Buck1 Tiger Eye Adam (brown)
Buck2 Obsidian Absolute (black)
Generation 2
Doe1 Tin Blessings (gray)
Doe2 Jade Bastella (green)
Buck2 Sandalwood Bator (brown)
Buck2 Onyx Blight (black)
The idea of using the letters of the alphabet in order is it gives you the ability to be creative and pick cool names that complement the stone that they are pared with, while still giving you the ability to know generation. -
I also breed (well used to) breed rabbits. (Holland lops!).
I think a fairy tale theme would be fun, and give you ENDLESS options. You could do random names, or have a specific fairy tale for each of your bucks
Bird's Storybook
Bird's Magic Carpet
Bird's Happily Ever After
Bird's Once Upon A Time
Aravis of Tarkeenha (Narnia)
Etc etc etc
(Bird's being rabbitry name prefix)
My rabbitry was "Pink's Holland Lops" (my last name is Pink) and all my rabbits had French names. (Feel free to steal that if you dont like fairy tales lol)
Pink's Calin
Pink's Soilel
Pink's Bisou
Just to name a few :x -
You could use the Latin word for each color (Genus) and pick a bird genus name for each generation (Species).
Blue - Caeruleum
Brun- Griseo (close as I can get)
Creme- Crepito
Noir - Niger
Champagne - Campaniae
Ex (I like parrots)
1st Gen Caeruleum ara
2nd Gen Caeruleum primolius
You could also pick your favorite bird and use it's Genus for a Color designation and the species for Generation names. -
This is gonna be hard. So many I like.

I have a Rabbitry and I’m super confused by this whole post. Can you message me?
-
I ran a 300 doe operation just up until 2 years ago when I split up with my ex. I had all the recognized varieties of Champs at one point (theres 6 in total but the ARBA only recognizes 3 - Creme D'argents, Champagnes, and Argent Bruns). I mostly bred American Sables and Californians but I dabbled in the Champs for a bit. And when I first got rabbits, I had Mini Rexes and English Angoras. So, hello fellow rabbit friend!
My main line of Sables was named after Tragically Hip songs, as my foundation buck was called "The Tragically Hip". My Cals were all named after ski slopes. So my foundation buck was Brimacombe, a son I kept of his was Devil's Elbow. Whistler was a doe. Can you tell I'm Canadian? Hahaha!
I find it hard to stick to one theme after a while, as the names evolve further and further away from the original idea. I did have a lot of does that were just registered to their tattoo number. But here are some examples of names that stuck with their related themes
Shotgun Blast - Birdshot, Buck Slug, Master Blaster
The Tragically Hip - Lake Fever, High Dough, Morning Moon
Brimacombe - Devil's Elbow, Whistler, Fernie, Revelstoke
Quota (I work on a dairy farm, quota is how much milk you can sell) - Cash Cow, Cowpoke, Milk Me
I guess that wasn't really a suggestion for you but just an example of how I did things! Good luck with your Champs!Thanked by 1Looper -
Another fellow former rabbitry here. I had Hollands, Jerseys, Nethies, and Mini Rex. Most all of my lines were REW or BEW except my Holland's but had the genetics and a few random rews thrown. For me, their tattoo was 1st letter of buck, 1st letter of doe and what # in litter they were. As for naming and lines it was always leading with the bucks name and mixing in outside does unless I had an exceptional doe (ones that placed well at nationals). It was easier to follow and keep track with buck lines and his offspring.
Ex. Had a blue holland - blue, his son seal blue (dont remember proper color name) - blue's manatee, his son rew - blues avalanche.
Same buck and his daughter, rew- blues ghost, her babies, blues bandit, blues warpaint, ect. -
Only few days to entry. So many good idea. It will be hard for me to choose.
-
Closing tonight. Last call!
It take me a few days to pick a winner. Will choose by Friday. -
BlaxkDiamond you are the winner!
You made just what I was looking for. Something easy to use to keep lines in mind and easy to generator names. Thank you. -
Oh my gosh. Thank you so much I’m so glad you like my idea. :)
-
Congrats @BlaxkDiamond!
And good luck with your rabbits @MakeMeABird! I wish so badly i could get back into breeding and showing but it just isn't the right time for that. Maybe someday :)Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755
