White Factor Question
-
I bred my first Star colt! But I’m very confused by his Extensive White Factor. How can a colt with no Kit, frame or anything have Extensive White Factor? Where is it coming from? I’d love to breed him to louder mares since he’s a bit plain, but the WF throws a hitch in things.
4G Fourth Rising -
WF isn't the total amount of white, it's the amount of white boosting potential in his genes. He would be perfect to cross on flashy mares.Need to contact me? Read this first. Thanks for asking the question, BreezyCreek, and thanks for the answer, Ammit. Now I have a better idea of just what white factor is and does.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thanks for answering! I didn’t know WF could exist without “white” genes. Do I have to stick to None/Low WF mares to decrease my chances of lethality?
-
Nope. Higher white factor only creates a risk of lethality when the foal gets 2 kit mutations (one from each parent). He doesn't have any kit mutations so is completely safe to breed to anything. The other potentially lethal gene, which he also doesn't have, is frame (Olw). Frame is always lethal when homozygous, except for the Freaky Friday rank specials of horses GMTed for it.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses. Thanks for clarifying! I didn’t know WF was only an issue if paired with two kits!
