Is this Snowflake?
-
Both parents are het SNF ... and this lovely lady looks more speckled than they ... but I have NO eye for snowflake, at all ...
Moonpools 02E

If the parents are het, they won't show it. It only shows if it's hom, AND if the horse has appy.
Het = no visible snowflake.
Hom + no appy = no visible snowflake.
Hom + het or hom appy = visible snowflake.Love,
Chase ♡Thanked by 1Summervine -
Thanks so much everyone! She's a straw/egg embryo (I think from my secret santa!), so I'm pleased she got the SNF along with everything else! :x

This gorgeous girl is the only foal from this pairing to catch both parent's snowflake and one of a very few out of all her dam's offsring to be hom snowflake. :x

Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

How can you tell if a horse has snowflake or have the potential to breed a snowflake foal?Thanked by 1Summervine

@Katiedid2 In this case, I trusted the owner's (Blackwyld) notes on her parents page that says they are "het SNF". I'm assuming that Blackwyld actually GMT'd the snowflake on to them.
But otherwise - the only way you'll know is if they have offspring that actually *show* snowflake, so it's a lot of trial and error.
If a horse is hom snowflake, all of their offspring will be at least het, because they will have gotten one SNF gene from that parent. So you can use that to make better trials. So if, for example, you bought one of Moonpools' offspring, you would know that it was het snowflake, because Moonpools is hom (since it is actually showing on her). And therefore all of her offspring's offspring will have a *chance* at having snowflake.
