Alfie needs a winter wardrobe
  • Because Luna is around 3" shorter than Alf and anatomically different I'm having to make Alfie his own winter woolies. The only things of Luna's that fit are her snoods. Since I no longer have a horse (Fish is finally pain free) I'm now dedicating my time to making a few jumpers for Alf and then I may start selling them.

  • Hmm I never thought to try loom knitting a sweater for my dog. Do you follow a pattern or just wing it?

I hand knit one sweater (that ended up felting weird and lots of holes when someone else washed it) and used a Knook (cross between knitting and crochet. You use a crochet hook with a hole in the other end that a string goes through to hold the extra stitches) for 1 1/2 sweaters (I liked the way this one fit but is 6-7 years old so am in the middle of making another but it got put down for a few months while I explored weaving)

This is the sweater pattern I’m using. Originally I used a variegated pink but this time I’m using a purple- white variegated rather than switching colours all the time. The knook makes it easier for me to pick up stitches to connect all the squares rather than knitting needles

  • I created my own pattern but I've had to change it because of Alfie being male. I sometimes add legs to them.

  • It's nice to find yarn lovers on here! I just got back into knitting as I'm horseless at school right now. I've made dog sweaters before, but I think my next project will be a short-sleeved human sweater.

I'm glad to hear Fish is pain free, but I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have hobbies and doggie cuddles to fill up your time - losing a friend is so hard!

  • So cute! I just want to snuggles your two hounds. :x

Well done on the yarn work too!
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • Cool! Very neat! Is it hard to do?
  • @Williams005 loom knitting is super easy and fun! You can find YouTube tutorials and the looms and yarn are sold at most local craft stores. Most people find needle knitting a little harder, but again, there are many helpful YouTube tutorials for that too.

  • Awesome! Thank you for sharing @Peninsula and thank you @HTRanch for telling me that. :D
  • @Williams005 I bought my loom kit off Amazon and just practiced making snoods at first then hats and now I make dog & human jumpers, mittens and I'm even trying a snuggy hood for my friends old timer (pony) who has male pattern baldness

  • YouTube and google are the best. I thought myself how to knit and crochet by googling what different abbreviations meant. I will still look up different stitches too just to do a refresher.

It’s also awesome because you can find the tutorials that best suit however you learn from video, written word or pictures

  • I did that when I was learning to make mittens
