Question about foundation breeding ability
-
I think that all exceptionally perfect horses have the same breeding ability, right? I ask this because most of my foundations are exceptionally perfect, and I breed them with a full pasture bonus. Most offspring pass SBA, and paper red/b or blue/a. I only keep the blue/a for breeding. I have noticed that a lot of the blue/a come from the same foundation mares - that is if the mare produces one that is blue/a, she will probably have more. I do have a few that produce only 1, and some that never produce a blue/a. So everything else being equal, are those mares that produce the higher papers consistently better breeders, or luckier?

If they are all exceptionally perfect, then I believe that they all have 105% breeding ability (that might be the wrong percentage, however). At any rate, they should all have the same ability. Exceptional Producers, on the other hand will have breeding ability above 100%, but not necessarily all the same.
Perhaps the variability you're seeing comes from the sires, unless they are all exceptionally perfect too. In that case, I'd put it down to luck.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

The sires I use are exceptionally perfect as well, with the each stallion having his own band of mares. So most of the time the mares are going back to the same stallion. I think I can chalk it up to luck.

HI RipshinCreekFarm! I haven't seen you for a while and was hoping you'd be back!

Exceptional Producers should also have a breeding ability of 105%, but their showing ability and PT score is not guaranteed. Exceptionally Perfect will have a 105% breeding ability and a 10.4 PT guaranteed. I think it’s just the luck of the draw.

Thanks for yalls answers @ConfluenceFarms I have been lurking around :)

I’ve been tracking my ExPerf herds, and find that some mares really are performing better overall than others, even when they are all ExPerf 1st gen, and have a 30 day pasture bonus. Two of my mares have routinely produced A/blue foals, whereas the others are rather hit and miss. I speld any foals that don’t pass SBA and paper blue gen 2, and have been surprised at the amount of passing foals produced by the same mares again and again.
