Is there an age limit on GMTing?

I thought you could only GMT an unbred horse that was 4 y/o or under and had no living offspring. However, somehow I also remember reading that maybe that age limit was taken away and now you can GMT a horse of any age as long as you own it and it has never been bred/has no living offspring. Which is it, or is it something else? lol
