I am in LOVE with the dappled coats I've seen on some horses. I went through the gene book and it looks like its the sooty/DP gene, but I have multiple horses with those genes and no dappling. Is there a specific combination? Do you have special effects on the coats?

Are you meaning this type of dapples? This is from the S+ gene, which is a version of the sooty gene that creates heavy, standout dapples and a bit of a coppery tone to livers.

M2 Something Lucid 2G

The regular create dapples are random (but are more common with a combo of sooty and DP) and you can try rerolling the horses photo for 100 HBs per reroll to try and get dapples to show up.

If you re-roll the portrait of your horses with Sty you can usually get them to show dapples like the second horse FallenShadows posted. Bays and silver horses also can have dapples. If you like how the first horse looks then you’ll have to specifically breed for it.

Thanks BlaxkDiamond, I forgot to mention S+ isn’t available on creates. It has to be GMT’d onto foundations, or purchased through the Gene Sales.

Just to further help with some examples for you here is a few other colours/shades with the Sty S+ combination just so you can see what it looks like on other coats ^^

Silver Bay:

SA Silver Cat 2G

Buckskin:

Days Of Dark Sun 2G

Chocolate Palomino:

The Silent Hero

Brown:

SA Leopold 2G

Silver Black:

AK Rembrandt 3G

This one is also Silver Black but she is S+ S+ (so no Sty) just for comparison

If you're a bit impatient, you can always buy some straws or breedings off of other people. S+ is popular, especially with dp horses. I'd be happy to do straws from this hom dp, het S+ (and a few other goodies) second gen boy of mine.

@JustaSaddleTramp I definitely love the chocolate palomino and the silver bay XD But all of the colors with this gene are just exciting to me. My barn right now has mostly grullos and champagnes as breeding stock right now.

Oooooooh he is just beautiful. I love how the dappling blends in more around the withers and gaskin, but also stand out in lighter areas. It's just perfection. I'm actually a fan of warmbloods mostly, but I don't discriminate :)

Of course the very next horse I make has the dapples effect! She'll be getting one of the straws from HTRanch's stud, and hopefully make beautiful dappled babies!

@RiverMeadows, Jupiter is a Cherry Drop I pulled A+ off of, then added two sooty and a silver (Z), which is just four total GMTs, much cheaper that sooty +. Lol I love his looks, but I'm not using him... And he's still GMTable, so he could be warmblood if you wanted. Would you like to have him? :)

If you don't mind uneven pedigrees I have 2 colts that don't have a use for that are hom S+ with very high PT scores so they should be good show horses.

@RiverMeadows Enjoy him, and welcome to the game! Jupiter should give you a nice variety of dappled babies. He's going to always throw DP (one of the darkening genes that often causes dapples) and sooty to his foals so you could easily get dappled bays, buckskins, champagnes, or duns from him. :)

@RiverMeadows Cremellos should give you some nice buckskin-based babies! Jupiter is EE AA, so his foals will always be bay based with at least one DP and one sooty gene, though they won't always get silver. I did that on purpose so I would have a chance for DP dappled dark bays by him along with DP dark silver bays. I love the dapples too. :)

W20 is more of a white activator. W10 is a bottom up speckle pattern. Let me grab links to my dappled champagnes.

w20 is like both! By itself it'll create socks and blazes, if the WF is high enough. But with other white spotting genes it increases the amount of white there is!
