The Colt Fairy is Real!
  • Just thought that I would share this... This is a result of SBA for everyone, and what intacts are left

Normally it's subtle 6-7 colts to 4-5 fillies, but really 2 fillies and 7 colts! I have never had a time where it was even 5 colts and 5 fillies.

Does anyone else have the colt fairy visiting this year?

  • 346 foals total this year (for some reason I got way more into straw breeding in recent years...this is weird):

89/346 intact (AFTER rigorous tests and standards)
    143/346 female
    203/346 male
26/346 males intact, but just barely. They'll be looked over again as they age.

But yeah, a 7/10 ratio? tsk.
so what numbers for previous years? :3
  • only 190 total last year:

    50/190 intact
    103/190 female
    37/190 females intact
    87/190 males
    13/190 males intact

I guess I had more fillies last year. :P
  • 206 age 3/ born year 71:

    49/206 intact
    115/206 females
    43/206 intact females
    91/206 males
    6/206 intact studs

I have to say year 73 is being much heavier to one side than either of the past years, so maybe the Secret Squirrel and the Colt Fairy should duke it out. :P
  • Hmmm interesting! I think it would be fun to check more often. Unfortunately I can't really look at previous years as I auction a lot of colts, and keep fillies. Sometimes it's close, but usually it tips more colts for me, and sometimes I get ratios like I did today! But oh well! Leaves more colts for comparison to get rid of! I guess I keep too many fillies anyway.

  • I have been awash in colts for tbe past 2 years. At least i am not as tempted to keep them as I would be fillies.
  • Well mine is rather even. These numbers aren’t including any horses that I’ve sold. (I also breed all my rank special mares but all the foals go to auction so they aren’t included). And these are also just my pastures. I may still do some straw breeding. (The intact numbers are after my super strict snipping).

    694 bred

    348/694 fillies
    346/694 colts
    61/694 intact fillies
    24/694 intact colts

So I had 2 more fillies then colts judging by the numbers I still own!
Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.

    Horses generally always available.
    PM me for any enquiries.
  • I always feel I have more intact colts than fillies - because I keep all the fillies. Fillies get popped into barns once they have passed sba and forgotten about. Colts however stay in my primary barn for ages while I sort them and test if they are superior to sire, whether I really need them and if I still can't decide yet they stay in my primary barn. So I feel like I am constantly looking at colts....
    LOL!
Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE.

  • I have a nearly perfect 50/50 ratio
    64 colts
    63 fillies
    13 gelded
    12 spayed

    Total: 152

Still way to many colts but I'll probably never get around to culling them..

I am very forgetful so if I owe you anything but am taking to long please send me a PM. I don't get on to play the game as often as I once did but I am usually most active during the 2nd and 3rd week of each month
  • Last year, the one stud whose babies I was most looking forward to... he had 6 foals. 4 of them were colts, all passed BA, and all were chocolate palominos. His 2 fillies were chestnuts and failed BA. Like really?? I totally sympathize with you!

~~Always buying expro/exceptional draft mares with 2 copies of sooty and 3+bone~~

  • You got me curious so I had to check.
    371 foals.
    200 fillies
    (42 intact, 158 spays)
    171 colts
    (25 intact, 146 geldings)

I had a lot more intact fillies, but a lot of them I spayed for low papering, wrong color, and so on. I am half way through my colts, I want to trim it to around 10.
It seems most years I have more colts, but this it is fillies.
  • Do most of you keep all of your foals?

  • It always seems like a 3:1 intact colts to fillies ratio for me. I auctioned 100% of my pasture colts this season--didn't even look at any of them. I only kept 2 or 3 I bred from embryos. I am so over run with studs that I really want and fully intend to use, yet 90% of them didn't see one mare this time around lol.
BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

  • @HunterUnderSaddleGirl I tend to alternate seasons. This season keep everything. Next season I will pare down to a handful of keepers (I shoot for 15%) and auction everything else. If I am short on room, I will auction two seasons in a row. The harsh culling and not keeping everything else for showing has me growing at a slow, but comfortable rate. I used to keep a lot more intact, as long as they passed SBA they were good to go, but the amount I had to breed just turned into work instead of fun. For show ponies, I can't keep everything because I run out of room. I am currently paying an extra 77% on barns, and I generally prefer to spend my IVs on GMTs to make new shinies.
  • That's a good way to do it! My gender ratios are always messed up as I do something way different for every gen. Like sometimes with my show line I auction all of the colts, but keep all of the fillies.

  • Interesting. I'll have to start tracking my numbers.
