I've had this stud for a while, and I've noticed I get a lot of foals that look like they have DP. Is it him, or just coincidental that the mares I breed him to just throw sooty foals?

I don’t think you boy has DP though. This girl has similar genetics and I know she’s het DP.

The above son of Studio Macintosh also has DP coming through his dam’s side and I think that’s where it came from.

I could be wrong though. The Nexus and any appy varnish he has coming through could make him look just light enough for me to not pick up his DP. I would hold out for at least one more opinion!

I think this colt has DP too, although again he has a likelihood of DP in his dam's side through his granddam. Although both are red based, and would have a changed name if they were Chocolate Palomino or Liver Chestnut, they both dropped a Sooty allele and aren't dark enough. I think they carry DP from the Liver Chestnut further up and that's what this colt got. :)

Yes I would say he definitely is. Dark dark bay is one of my favorite coats and I always love to see it.

Your horse has S+ which lightens his coat even more.

In addition, this colt he produced is definitely hom DP and therefore must have inherited one DP from his sire, the horse in question.

I agree with deardiamond. He has a Hom DP son, so he has to have a copy himself. It came from his sire who is het DP.

He’s definitely het DP. He doesn’t look Hom dp.

I didn't think he was hom. But I'm super happy he's het! I've got a flood of his offspring in my barn :x
