Dense Pheomelanin
  • Hi, am doing some work on my like minded Stallion, and im about to put Dense Pheomelnin on him, . So both sire and Dam tells me my horse already has this, ive added sooty sooty, and yet he is not liver chestnut. This is the exaxt wording whether i use sire or Dams side

Your horse has the ? allele for this Dense Pheomelanin gene.

Dense Pheomelanin is an untestable gene. You will always see the option to modify on an untestable gene but will only be charged if that horse does not already have that gene.

So i am new to changing a horse like this so can anyone give me a heads up as to what im doing wrong?
I want him a liver Chestnut
    Thanks in Advance :)

  • He doesn't have the DP.

The ? will be there whether he has DP or not because it's untestable. If DP was in the RGS it would show it as an actual gene not being present but in the Gene lab it just stays as a question mark.

Click on it to make the gene change and he will change to liver! Just Het will change him to liver, hom will make him a Black Liver.

  • There should be a button below the text you copied that says "Cange ? for ? for 10 GMTs". And are you sure you have enough GMTs?

  • Actually i have 8 gmts i was trying to see what it would tell me, Thank you Maribo
@ Ceffy that is good info thank you, i did want him hom DP BUT i really wanted him Liver color dark is ok but Liver, something to think about. Thank you both for the great info :)
  • He'd still be a Chestnut Liver with Hom DP it's just called a black liver because they look almost black!

For Example these 2 are Hom DP/Hom Sty and could easily pass as Black therefore they are called "Black Livers" while still being Liver Chestnuts in all actuality

  • So its a bit confusing lol. But thats actually really helpful in spotting the dp Thank you both for the great examples :) I know my Freaky is Hom Dp
But i can now see on his foals who is hom.
Im still going to make him hom dp. I need two more gmts for het. Slow going as im getting barns too.
The problem i was having was it said he already had the gene so i was confused by it because i knew he wasnt DP.
Thanks for helping me out :)
