Starting Over? Looking for advice!
-
I have been playing this game for 2 years now, and almost none of my horses are evenly bred. I started *unintentionally* bootstrapping/uneven breeding very early on in my game life, so what I have descending from my original foundies are all uneven.
I have been contemplating starting over. Doing a mass cull of all of my horses, only keeping/leaving intact those that are evenly bred (which is not very much). Or, culling about half of everything and keeping some of my uneven loveys as a bootstrap herd.
I'm looking for opinions from maybe some older players who have started over, to switch their breeding goals or projects, and how they went about it or how it turned out for them.
Is evenly breeding even that important? Should I be concerning myself with this? I know there is no right way of doing things on here and that everyone can play their game the way they want to! But, as of lately it has been bothering me more and more that my horses aren't evenly bred.
I have spent some moola on creating a new foundation stallion for my silver bay line, and I am kind of wondering if I shouldn't get rid of the old line completely and just focus on my new one.

So any advice or guidance you guys could offer me would be great! Just feeling so torn about it. -
I have been playing this account nearly 3 years and like you I have done a fair bit of uneven breeding. A few months ago I decided I would spey/geld all unevens or put them in my bootstrap barn. I feel ok about it and don't regret it. I needed a reason to reduce the number of mares anyway! With those horses I really loved I kept as bootstrap mares (or even studs).
You know that really there is no right or wrong answer to this question (as you say) but I do find a lot of people prefer even lines. However, we also know you breed for yourself generally not for others. But do what makes you happy. :)
These are just my thoughts - I am sure others have different ones.Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE.Thanked by 1FireFrostFarms -
Well, you answered your own question when you said there is no right or wrong way to play. ;) That said I keep my even and uneven/bootstrap lines separate. If you personally are bothered by the uneven lines then I'd say go ahead and start fresh with some new lines. You don't have to get rid of your old ones if you don't want to or you could at least keep your favorites. I'm currently going through and doing a hard cull of horses to try and get numbers down in my later generations and also focusing more on my foundations to get all the genes I want. It's never too late to start over!ID: 40723Thanked by 1FireFrostFarms
