Need Help Culling - Confused About Current Lifetime Payout
-
Hello Everyone -
I'm confused about the current lifetime payout thing and how it relates to points.
Here's the skinny - I'm trying to free up some barn space, get things organized and cleaned up. Previously, I would cull mostly based on 2 things: the total points carried by the horse and where they leveled off (as long as they weren't coming in dead last they stayed). I would compare horses with their peers (same age, but spay/gelds against each other, unfixed against each other but not compared to spay/gelds)
Now I'm a little overwhelmed. I have a LOT of ponies, mostly just hanging out in barns and I'm mostly ok with that, but I've recently been keeping a lot of my spay/geld ponies after breeding (because fantasy genes = shiny show ponies!).
My problem is this - should I still be checking where the pony lands in the show results? Or can we just compare the CLP of horses in the same age group and kind of cull based on that?
Sorry if this seems long winded and confusing - I may not be explaining it well.
TLDR;
I need help culling, CLP has confused me a little bit. Please send help =)) -
For a horse aged 10 and older, the CLP is what the bid will start at if placed in public auction. Meaning, if a 10 year old has a CLP of 15k, the bid starts at 15k and that’s what you would get for auctioning that horse. But then you lose the daily payout that horse was giving you. I generally will go through my 10yo and older horses at the start of the season, see who is coming in last in shows or has leveled off in a bad place (bottom 4-5 places is my cutoff), and those horses that don’t make the cut get auctioned. I then get a nice chunk of change to look for younger pointed creates. You have to wait until the horse is 10 or older before the auction bid equals the CLP, anyone younger it just starts at 2500. Also, even if your older horses CLP is less than 2500, the base auction price kicks in and you will get 2500 for them.

This got put in place as a way to clean up the servers, there are tons of show ponies that still showed their foal photos because people just don’t look at their show ponies. So it encouraged people to actually go through and clean up a bit to help the servers use less energy (for lack of better term) on all these show ponies.

I would continue to cull the way you were, your just more likely to get extra money doing it.
The current lifetime payout is based on how much the horse would make you if it never showed it another day in its life and just sat collecting its daily show bonus from its current total points
The number of points the horse currently holds and its current life payout can still increase if the horse continues to show and earn more points.
If the horse isn’t earning many more points the clp will lower the closer the horse ages up towards turning 18 as its running out of time to earn that amountBreeding even generation Grullos with Ice
