What is he Carrying?
-
This boy has produced a string of lovely coloured foals this breeding season. I am still new to the genetics of the game and am trying to work out what he carries to produce all the dusky coloured foals. He only has one Sty gene so can I assume he is hom DP to be throwing these foals?

He's not hom DP or his color would be chocolate palomino. Several of his foals got dilution genes from their mothers: all the the dun and champagne genes.

I do not think he has any DP at all. Not sure what you mean with dusky colored? Several have dun or champagne, and some are homozygous sooty, making them darker than their sire.ID 108

I agree, the hom sooty is probably what is causing the darkness in the foals -- one copy from the stud, and one from the dam. You've just been lucky that he seems to be throwing that sooty more often than not!

Ah I see it’s just luck that the foals are coming out that way that’s a shame I thought he may be at least carrying something hidden. Thanks for clarifying.
