What genes to add/what would you do with this line?
-
So I've decided to start (another) new line. Some of my older foundation lines are getting close to having their studs age out. A couple of those lines will hopefully get new foundation studs with the same/similar genes or a clone of the original but some of the lines will be getting cut completely once the stud is gone. That said I've been toying with the idea of doing a new line based off my blood bays that I've collected. I decided who will likely be the stud (once she becomes he in the GMT lab...) but I'm unsure what else to do with this line. I think I'll be adding the new gene that's being released later in the month depending on what it looks like but on the off chance I don't like it or it's not what I expect I need a back up plan. So help a girl out and tell me what you think I should do with this line.
Genes I've considered adding:
- The new gene coming out
- Ice9
- Appy (though I think I've decided not to...but tell me what you think!)
- Tiger eye? Would those bright eyes look good on this line?
A couple notes:
- Almost everything I breed has appaloosa, I think I might want to stay away from it with this line.
- I'm going for the blood bay look, hom DP with no sooty genes.
- I'd like to eventually breed the A+ out of the lines but some foundations (cherry drops) will have it.
Here's the (to be) boy in question. What would look amazing on him and keep the tone of dark red/black going?

I breed a lot of ice 9 on wild bay, so this is what it would look like on the bright red base color if you were looking for examples:
HT1 2R Vari Cherry
S+ brightens it up even more:
Z 3924321
Satin and ice9 is just dreamy:
HT1 5G 3924318
W10/ice9 is a great combo too:
Z 4060093
And if you didn't know this already ice9 turns other ices black:
GMT Boost 4405512
HT1 5B KaosID 43830
It's nice to be back! :)

HT Ranch - I have a new found respect for wild bay now! I have Ice 9 too, but never thought to put it on them. New thing to do!
Ren - please DO get Ice 9! I love it, and the I9 community is small. It would be nice to have someone else to swap horses with!Thanked by 1HTRanch -
I have tons of non sooty DP and I actually prefer to keep it fairly simple with them because i like to see the actual color (plus makes it easier to see if they are het or hom). Small splash patterns, rabicano & tobiano look really nice. I tend to avoid appaloosa because i like the color to stay. Silver is awesome, and roan, especially in combination with silver is quite nice. You can search my ID# & put NSDP in the horse name box and find most of mine, here's a few of my favorites though.
2B NSDP Perfection 832
Silver wild bay hom dp
2B NSDP Freedom 276
Regular bay splash, possibly hom dp
3A NSDP Abraham 302
Silver bay roan splash, hom dp
2B NSDP Perfection 388
Silver regular bay, hom DP

@HTRanch - They are lovely! Thank you so much for the examples. I did not know that ice9 turns the other ices black! Learn something new everyday...that also makes me want ice9 even more as I have a couple other ice genes and that could be fun to add into the mix....
@WhiteMountain - I'm certainly strongly considering it as I really think the ice9 would be beautiful with the blood bay color. I'm such a sucker for that black and red look. lol
@Haltanny - Thanks for the examples! I'm with you though, I like/understand the idea of keeping things fairly simple so that you can see all that gorgeous color showing through. Hmm decisions, decisions....ID: 40723
