Choosing new stirrups
  • I'm looking at investing in a new pair of stirrups - which while not very exciting, will probably still not be cheap :)) I'm basically picking the brains of everybody I can, and now it's you guys' turn! I'd love to hear from any of you guys who currently have any of the following, or have ridden in them previously:

    BR Aero Tech
    ACavallo AeroPro or Opera
    TechStirrups Aphrodite or Venice SlopeD
    Freejump Soft'Up Lite
    Equitaly Greep Soft

My horse is an older boy, and his legs are too precious to risk jumping so I currently only own a dressage saddle, and we compete on and off mostly for fun. Colour isn't an issue, because I'll just wrap any colour in black electrical tape for a competition LOL.
But I'm mostly looking for something balanced and nicely weighted, and some of these claim to help with hip issues etc and position, so I'd be intrigued to hear any experiences?

Here's a picture of my sausage as reward for reading my rambling :D

  • You probably wouldn't appreciate my input on stirrups, mostly because it only includes cutting saddles and the various qualities of oxbow vs bell, but I do like the picture! The pasture and wood fence are definitely drool worthy!

  • I'm a semi-feral forest person, so all I've really got on stirrups is "None?" but I also like your horse and pasture. Thanks for sharing!
  • As a therapeutic riding instructor and walk-trot rider who has come off her horse from time to time, I'm all for any of the safety stirrups. I'm most familiar with the peacock type with an elastic band on the outside. However, I'm not sure how they'd go over in a dressage class.

A search for stirrups at Amazon brought up this page that has a fair number of safety stirrups at what look like fairly reasonable prices.

  • I have used these for most of my riding career with great success. I’ve never had a foot get caught during a spill, and I’ve had my share. I think my trainer used these with most of her students in favor of the rubber band stirrups, and even used them herself.
