Pasture foal disappeared*fixed*
-
Bred a Catch A Blue Moon stallion and mare in the pasture. It shows mare had a foal, but the foal is nowhere to be found? It never showed up at the bottom like they normally do..
-
The stallion and mare were both Catch a Blue Moon’s?
-
What likely happened is the foal either inherited both copies of frame from the parents, which is lethal and will not give you a live foal. It’s also possible the foal inherited both copies of w2, which I’m fairly certain is not a safe mix and likely caused a dead foal.
-
Yes. Nothing showed at the top saying that they had a lethal foal. Had that happen before and there was a box near the top that said something about how the pair had a foal, but the foal didn't survive.. I bred the same stud to a different Catch A Blue Moon mare and got a stunning foal out of the pair..
-
Stud I used:
CABM Moon Spelled
2nd mare he was bred to that resulted in no foal:
CABM Moonlit Spell
After looking at them I'm sure its probably what you mentioned.. I should have paid better attention if that's the case -
In pasture there won’t be a message that there was a lethal foal, that’s only in hand breeding (in the barn) or lab breeding. In the pasture there just won’t be a foal from that pairing.
Here is a link to a chart that shows the kit lethality risks, pairing W2 with W2 is a moderate risk. So while having a homozygous W2 cross might not prove lethal, both parents are also homozygous splash, meaning the foal would be homozygous splash. Splash adds to the white factor, and if you happen to add even one copy of the parents frame (which also increased white factor) it would likely result in a dead foal.
