Happy anniversary, Hunt & Jump!

For me, thirteen was a very long year. I was the new kid in a tiny unfriendly town in a new state, perpetually the odd one out that no one paid any attention to unless they were making fun of me. I was teased constantly about my accent, my looks, for turning to watch any horse I caught a glimpse of, and for constantly drawing horses or reading about them, among many other things.

Local kids had grown up around horses and I was thought very odd for loving them so much. I had no friends except my dogs (Princess the St Bernard and Nigel the Sheltie, neither named by me), my few Breyers, and my two boxes of treasured horse books I had brought when we moved, but every dream I had for my future centered around horses. I had been promised a horse of my own after we moved, it was how my mom convinced me leaving behind my friends and almost everything I owned would be okay, but it hadn't happened yet then and wouldn't until my fourteenth birthday.
