Is there an advantage to showing foals?
-
I show all my barn horses twice a week, except foals. They can't train, and it's 50:50 whether they win or not.
My question is, is there an advantage in showing foals? Does showing or not affect their earnings or performance later in their careers? -
About the only purpose in showing foals is that it can give you a rough estimate of their consistency. If you show them twice a week for a couple of weeks and their score never varies, you can guess that their scores will be fairly if not entirely the same each week after training. If a foal's scores something like 2, 4, 3, 1, 2, 5, you'll know it's pretty inconsistent. :DDe gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

What Sandycreek said. But also if earn at least 1 full point they get to keep it. About half of my newly turned 2 Year olds have 1-2 points... It doesn't mean much now, but could put them over the hump later. Also I didn't start showing all of my foals until I had hit a comfortable position financially in game. One thing to keep in mind though (and I'm terrible about it) if you do show your foals, it's best not to show them the Sunday before they age up especially if that happens early in the week.
