It has been my goal for a few seasons to get a *star papered homozygous satin stud at 5th gen. So far, that hasn't happened yet! I got this guy a few seasons back who is homozygous not only for satin, but also for sooty+ and ice9. He is everything I am looking for in a stud. He originally passed BA but papered A and compared only as good as his sire, so I did the responsible thing and gelded him. Seeing as I haven't yet gotten a stud like him of higher quality, I'm considering unaltering him and boosting him. If I were to do that, how many boosts do you think he would need to reach a *star paper?

Without more extensive comp testing, I couldn't tell you, but if his sire is your highest quality so far, and he's the best son of that sire and a genetic improvement over said sire, I think boosting (and boosting as much as you can afford) is absolutely a reasonable choice! He might just be the one to throw stars even if he can't be one himself.

If he passed BA and he's what you want to breed for, I'd definitely ungeld and boost! Oh I just saw homozygous for ice9 too, yeh I'd boost him LOL! He might take 5% to get to Star though

Thanks for the advice! He does have a *star papered cousin with the same grandsire, but not nearly as many fancy genes going on. I will probably end up boosting him next month, when I can save up!
