Am I Being Too Hard on Him?
  • I’ve got this little guy who is linebred to my favorite stallion (and first GMT project: Son of Starbucks). He’s passed SBA, I believe is Hom DP, but he only papered AGA his sire. Though, to be fair his sire is a 2G who papered a high A (Because SOS was the bomb-diggety..).

My plan since he is Hom LP, is to use him to add LP to 3G mares who have too many other white genes for me to feel safe breeding them to come of my flashier stallions, but somehow the poor guy always ends up on the shortlist when I’m culling the herd.

Should I just give the poor guy a break?

  • I'd use him, personally. At least until a Superior brother with similar genetics was born/aged up.

  • He and similar mares won't age out for at least 14 years. If you like him and it won't hurt to put the hbs into his foals then I would't call a year given to him a loss. Especially if you feel like it'll make your lines less likely to lose foals due to white factor. He's gorgeous!

I have a group of foundation/RS mares and a group of foundation/RS stallions. Starting with the oldest, each stallion will get a chance to make foals that pass BA. If they don't age out before the lineup is done then they'll get another shot.

Are you selling straws from him? :)
  • I haven’t been, but I certainly would. You might look at his sire too if you like him.
  • @4StarShowPonies you're right, his sire is actually a better fit for my Gen 2 Appies. Could you sell me 2 straws from him? :)
  • I’m going to put him up for Public Breeding.
