DP without Sooty
-
I have another DP question for the experts. I picked this mare up at auction as I was looking for a few more chestnut hom Sty Expro/Experf mares. She was untested, but looked hom Sty to me, so I bid on her and took her home. Imagine my surprise when she was gene tested as not having any Sty! She has to have DP to be that dark, but she looks darker than some other non-Sty, het DP mares I’ve seen. Is it possible that she is hom DP?

For comparison, I know this mare is het DP as she's thrown a liver with only one Sty gene. She looks a shade lighter to me than the first mare.

The mare below has thrown a liver when paired with a hom sooty hom dp stud. That means that the foal just got lucky and got the single sooty that his dam has. **Edit** whoops, my mistake, foal only has 1 sooty! Need to slow down sometimes lmao. But the above mare is darker, so she probably has more darkening genes
I'd guess that the above girl is hom dp. In chestnuts (NOT bays) dp and sooty work basically the same. I'd say she's about the same as this hom sooty girl

On the look out for pointed creates -
Yup, she's jom DP. I have a line of non sooty DP, so i have about 200 from foundations to 4th generation. :)#28036

If you like the look and want to breed for it, i can help you out with a couple more mares and straws (if you can use them).#28036

@ObsidianKitsune - Sorry to be confusing! I knew DP made bays more reddish, but I wasn't sure about chestnut. Thank you for confirming!
@Haltanny - Neat! I hadn't considered what most ponies would look like with DP but no sooty. Do you just have chestnuts in your line or do you breed different colors? I think it would be interesting to start a small line of DP without sooty. Maybe it would sharpen my eye for DP. -
@WickedPonies I have a lot of chestnut and regular bay, but i am working to add more wild bay and brown. There are some dilutions, but not a lot, since the more dilutions, the harder it is to tell. I'm also added some white patterns, as i find them.
Here's a link. These have at least one copy of DP.
