Woot! Another newbie question.

Since I'm basically starting from scratch here, what should my strat be?
From discussions on HJ1, I know that bootstrapping is the quickest way to build a show string, and that should be my 1st priority.
What should I do with the pointed foundation creates? Sell them at auction or ? Does it matter if they are altered if the answer is yes? Keep the highest points from my creates and sell the rest?
Obviously, I do need to keep some intact for my little 10 horse pasture.

Pointed creates sell really really well here on the public boards, especially the yearlings/2yos. Different people have different preferences, but Exceptional producers, exceptional/great show horses, perfect foundations, and the like tend to sell quite well. It's a great way to buy yourself a barn or two and save up a bit before you max out of making pointed creates.

Selling your pointed creates is definitely a good start. Go for perfect foundations and exceptionals from the herd helpers - take a look and see what others sell for. Make yearlings/2 year olds for selling or 4 yr olds that you can breed and then sell them and then auction their offspring (unless you like them lots!).
Bootstrapping is a great way to breed to start and get lots of pretty ponies with good PTs and hence will make good show ponies in the long term and help you decide what you want to breed for.

Sell them on the public boards not in auction - you will get more for them. People (including me) want them as show ponies so I am not bothered if they are speyed/gelded just that their PT is hopefully 9.9 or greater. So go for great show, perfect found, exceptional show or exceptional perfects.
You will get lots of money for very high pointers so sell them too if you want. :)Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE. -
Is there like a pricing guide on those pointed foundations?
-
Not really.
But if I see good PT horses with these prices I will go for them:-
100-150pts go for 3k
150-200 3.5k
200-250 5k (you could get more)
250-300 6k (you could get more)
300-400 8k (you could get a lot more)
400-500 10k (you could get a lot more)
over 500 could go for 15-50k (sometimes more if RSs or exceptionals with good genes)
I am sure others could tell you more but these are numbers that I look for when buying show ponies.

Thanks for the pricing suggestions

If you sell unaltered, do the genetic testing and charge the extra 100 bucks for it. That way people can find them in search. This account inspired by Cherry Drops.

I’ve been selling pointed creates since November, and I’ve never had luck selling creates with under 200 points, even if they have good PT’s, and are under 2. If the horse is around 3-4yrs the only way they’d sell well was if the points were over 270. I was using form posts too so people would see them. Personally I was not able to consistently get my money back from testing so I didn’t do it often.
The prices that I used were
100-200 create price/Auction
200-299 $2,600-2,900 depending on horse
300-349 $3,000
350-399 $3,500
400-500 $4,500
500 $8,000
Up from there I usually kept the horses or auctioned them. Horses with 900+ points can go for a minimum of $35,000 (I once had an auction with a Dark Chocolate mare who’s selling price was 500,000, but that was a very sought after HH at the time.)
I also only did BA testing
Also anything with DP, and Nd1 sell for a much higher price. I usually do $25,000 fo DP. 8,500 for Nd1. I do all testing on these ones.
I created 4yr old mares bred them before BA testing them. I would BA everything then Auction the foals. Within 6 months I’ve bought a Basic Upgrade, 120 and 60 stall barns and over 13mil in GMTs, I also just did a account merge and still have enough left for a 200 stall barn, without wiping my hjbs bank account out. I haven’t spent $1 of real cash on accomplishing any of it.
