This isn't even horse related, I'm just so distraught at what's been going on all day. If you haven't already heard, Notre Dame Cathedral has been burning, and even though the stone structure and many valuable paintings have been saved, there is just COLOSSAL damage to the building. The spire has fallen. I held myself together until I saw a 360 degree view of the inside when it was all intact and just...that's not something I can ever see. The videos of it burning bring me to tears, too. I really hope it can be rebuilt within my lifetime, but it originally took 200 years to build.

Thankfully, though one firefighter has serious burns, no one is reported dead.

I cried too. My poor boyfriend looked at me like I had 10 heads. It's something I'll never get to cross off my bucket list. Thankfully everyone is ok so far!

I can't imagine how the people responsible feel. Arson has been ruled out for now, and terrorism hasn't been mentioned.

I started crying the minute I heard about it. I tried watching the videos of it burning and couldn't. It just tears my heart out.

The pictures make it look worse than it is, I feel, because the fire started in the attic where renovations were, which means the interior structure won't be too bad except for places where things fell through. The stone vaulted ceilings were actually designed for protecting the rest of the building from roof fires. One issue is that the lead of the roof melted and fell inside, which made firefighters' job even more dangerous.
So yeah, it's horribly bad, but it could be way worse. Also, a French billionaire pledged $100 Million euros to the rebuilding. :D

At least no one died but yes a very sad day. I have visited several times and have family in France and was shocked when I saw the images. :(
