Good numbers?
  • 8 gelded and 4 spayed outta 158 foals. Good? Still need to do strict mare advice and showing test.
  • Showing test got 5
  • Your numbers look pretty good compared to mine. My pastures were all foundations. Out of 154 foals, SAT got 23, GA gelded 18, MA spayed 1, and SMA spayed 27. So your numbers look way better than mine do. 69 altered to 85 intact.

EDIT: I still have to paper the colts and then geld some more of my pasture foals though. And I breed my foundations for show horses also, so I wasn't looking for breeders.
  • Can't compare pastures versus not.

  • Are you doing regular mare advice and then strict mare advice?
  • This was reg mare advice. Strict got more. These are all foundation breedings
  • Just made it through my DP pasture. out of 100 foal 66 left intact after GA, MA, SMA, SAT, and gelding sub-par papered colts.
  • You don't need to test mare advice and then go through and test strict mare advice. Just do strict mare advice :)
  • I did my wild bay pasture last night (100 mares, foundation gen) and I had only 5 spayed by SMA, none by GA and none by SAT. Those are fairly typical numbers in my established herds with full pasture bonus, but I've been culling the less productive mares out of that herd for 2 or 3 seasons now. (3 strikes policy works!). I have 45 Red papered mares in that pasture after mare testing this season.

I have a slightly higher alter rate in my less well established pastures and expect to have a much much higher one in my 3 new pastures this season (tobi riding ponies, snowflake and draft) because they won't have even half a pasture bonus and are made up of whatever mares I've been able to create or pick up. I don't have enough gen 2s and up before this season to have a good idea of how that is going to go...but I have almost 200 gen 2 mares for this season so I should start to be able to cull out those mares this season.
  • Hey Hidden! To emphasize just how amazing your numbers are, I am publishing my alter rate for my brand new Snowflake pasture. This is a top rated stallion who covered 49 mares, many of which were new creates and only a couple have the full pasture bonus. I have 17 alters after GA and SMA and none from SAT. You should be so incredibly proud of your babies and of your stallions. You have done a really good job.
  • :-) thank you. I am thankin you guys too. You helped me pick my boys:-)
