I was going to add mushroom to this little fella:

But if it only affects red pigment, that means it'll only show on red based horses... right?
Which means, to see it, I should go with this one, right?

The first one is bay based, so he does have red pigment :) Mushroom will have a more dramatic effect on a red based horse, but bay horses have both black and red pigment, so there will be an effect shown.

After a quick search, this is my guess when it comes to mushroom and classic champagne.

Classic champagne is E_ aa Ch_

So I am going to go with no, classic champagne will not show much, if any, color change with mushroom. Champagne seems to be a “color modifier” dependent on the dominant color genes, meaning black, bay/brown, and red. So unless you plan on not keeping it a classic champagne line, and plan on adding in agouti and chestnut genes, I would say mushroom would probably be a waste on this particular stud since it won’t display.

Disclaimer: I could be completely wrong, hoping someone will come along and either confirm or deny my theory.
