I'm so conflicted on my new line, should I abort?
-
I started grabbing some riding horse foundations and 2nd genz and I bought the Arab tack pack. But idk I'm not impressed. My draft line has been so honed and I love my drafties that my riding horses cant keep up. I'm considering cutting my losses and just selling them. But I spent so much money between buying the ponies and the tack pack idk if its worth selling them. Please help me!Breeder of the tallest drafts

If you want to keep them just give yourself more time to get used to them. I never liked the drafts but now have several that I love. I personally love the riding horses and the tack pack about the best as it has so many different styles and you can customize the colors in such fun ways. I like to try to match the horse color at least somewhat lol
Here are some of mine but have lots more examples if you need them lol

@FriesianPaints wow...just WOW!!! Your ponies look AHHHHMAZING!!! @ApollosLegacy maybe just sell/cull to keep a few favorites so it's manageable and still a fun side project (that will give you more time to play with the tack pack!).
I breed exclusively RH's and will pay very fairly for what fits my program :-)BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

I love the tack pack but don't own any riding types - I really should branch out...
@FriesianPaints - your horses are fantastic :)
@ApollosLegacy - just give it some time - you could always do some bootstrapping with those riding mares and make some pretty show ponies for a bit and then have a think about your lines later. Nothing is set in stone :)
Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE. -
I ended up making a second account to breed riding horses... Now I'm all drafts on Genever and all riding horses on FreyaGrump, and I honestly like the more focused per-account approach a bit better.
(And since new accounts now make pointed horses for a while, I was able to upgrade the 2nd account to Basic with IVs!)
I also like Dinascar's idea of bootstrapping with your riding horses. You can definitely find an RH star stud if you look (ping me if you're having trouble, I have one I could spare). -
I specifically breed riding horses on this account (with the exception of my bootstrap line that currently anything goes) so I guess I'm biased towards them. That said what is it that you are not impressed with on your riding horse lines? Is it the genes that you are going for are not turning out the way you want or is it more that you thought you would like/grow to like the art but it just hasn't happened? If it's the first you can fix that but if it's the second bit well....not exactly an easy thing to change. You can always narrow your focus with your riding horse line that may make things more interesting for you. :)ID: 40723

I abandoned my draft line I had going. It just didn't speak to me, so I disbanded the line. I did keep those that had a look, or some genes I valued or were of a quality I liked. They are still in my lines and must admit they are growing on me. I doubt I will do a pure draft line again. I also was not a fan of Riding Horses, but again I have some in my lines, for the same reasons as above.
Do not feel bad about abandoning a line. Keep the ones you like the most, and sell the rest. -
Thanks for the opinions everyone. I love the looks of the light horses, but breeding them hasnt sparked any excitement in my like breeding drafts does. When I breed my drafts I get so happy and excited with my foals and I think about the coming seasons and were they're going to play a part in future lines, I dont get that feeling with the riding horses. They're cute, but breeding them almost seems like a chore... idk....they're beautiful! But that's about it....
@duelinghawks if u want to look at the stock I have here they are.

I breed RH and draft horses as well. For some reason my RH line has always been smaller, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing! If you aren’t enjoying the riding horses then sell them. If you are having fun, keep them. There is no “should do”.
Which is looks like you have just done that.
I would take any/all exceptional producers and 2G reds you can’t find a home forBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

If you decide to sell them I'm interested in any/all appaloosas :)

@ApollosLegacy, I sent you a message, thanks!

I am also an RH breeder. I know what you mean though - On the other server I was going to have a draft line...and then just kind of let that fizzle. I love the way the big ol' drafts with the long manes and tails look, but I didn't get as excited about the draft line as I did about my sport ponies and warmbloods over there. That's part of what makes the game nice though - you don't get super penalized for not liking something if you decided to refocus.~Purveyor of the finest riding horses in Rakia~

Ha, also, I thought I really wanted splash in my main lines, but the more I see it the more I could take a pass on it....so I'm starting to weed that out and narrow down some of my other genes. Four months ago I was hunting splashy riding horses with a passion. Now it's "yeah, I guess I *could* keep this one...."~Purveyor of the finest riding horses in Rakia~
