Non-dun 1
-
I know this has been asked before, but the answer felt confusing to me so I'd like some further clarification.
"Dun is the most dominant, followed by nd1 and finally nd2 as the most recessive."
- from the updated dun page in the genetics guide
So is dun completely dominant to nd1, or is it incompletely dominant?
In horse portraits, the effects of nd1 can clearly be seen in horses that are Dnd1, even to the point that on visuals I'd guess nd1 to be more dominant, not the other way around.

Yeah, when I saw the last post I went looking to see if I could find something, and I couldn't! Clarification would be great!

Following! Mind you I personally think Dnd1 is more dramatic than just D. It's like nd1 mixed with D makes dun look dramaticDivineDreams ~ 30908

I agree with Divine. Love that nd1 shoulder patch, and it always looks more extreme with dun!Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I know this is how they teach genetics but it's one of those "lies" they tell to make genetics understandable. Dominant versus recessive is a learning aid not the truth about how it works. It is neither. Both are active, sometimes circumstances mean you see both, sometimes you don't, but both are always active. That's why it goes +, A, t, a with agouti. The "dominate" ones don't turn off the more recessive ones, they just hide the appearance.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Thanks for the clarification! So in relation to nd1, it is correct that it should be visible in the horse even in the presence of dun?ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! I'm always selling straws and eggs from anything I have that catches your eye, don't hesitate to PM me and ask!

No. It MIGHT be visible on the horse in the presence of dun. Or it might not. Realistically there should be no way to tell if a horse is D- or Dnd1. The markings could be from either. That will come in time.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

Thank you very much for clearing that up! I remember hearing Dun would be dominant back when nd1 was first introduced, and have been rather confused since that nd1 currently seems so bold even with dun, especially with the shoulder mark. Thanks for taking the time to explain! I look forward to seeing the future changes, and really appreciate all the hard work you put into this game!ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! Can I tack on to this? I also have questions about the dun genes...
I just bred a filly who’s test results are dnd2
I know that dun is D, then you have nd1 and nd2. I’ve never seen a horse with just a notation of “d” since the dun testing changed to include nd1&nd2. The horses I’ve seen are listed as nd2/nd2 if they don’t carry dun factor. Or am I just missing something?
*edited because I listed her dun test results incorrectly* -
@PrismEquine Can you link the filly? I think that might be an error, since Ammit changed recessive dun to be nd2 instead of d.

DPHetPATN1
I think her sire is listed the same as well -
I thought she was nd1d but I was incorrect. She’s listed as dnd2. Her sire is nd1d
-
Hmmm, that is odd, considering her sire was created after the addition of nd1 into the game.
-
Maybe Ammit is updating the genetics again?
I remember that she did this when nd1 first came out and had us all confused for a bit until she officially released it.ID# 47364

The fault lies with Questionable Balance, the sire. For some reason he doesn't have the 'nd2' notation, but rather the old notation when there was only "D" and "d". Originally I thought that it was gmting on a copy of nd1, but Ammit said it had something to do with the HH. Have applied it to the bugs discussion

@ObsidianKitsune Thanks for clearing that up. I figured that it was either a bug, or I was missing something lol. Also, this is the het PATN1 filly I was messaging you about
