How do I get a Hom Red Ax from het offspring?
-
-
Well, to get a 50/50 shot at hom, you would need to breed her to a hom red axiom stud. That will be your best chance. You could also breed her to a het red axiom stud, but it will only give you a 25% chance at a hom axiom foal, with a 50% chance at a het axiom and a 25% chance at a foal that missed both copies of axiom from each parent completely.
-
Since she's only heterozygous red axiom, no, because there is always a 50% chance of her not passing on red axiom.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

The odds are the same no matter what gene your talking about.
Homo horses are guaranteed to have het foals.
Het foals are 50% able to have het. Foals.
2 het horses have 25% odds of not inheriting either, 50% het and 25% chance of homo foals
1 het horse crossed with 1 homo horse is 50% homo, 50% het
2 homo horses have 100% chance of homo foals
You can plug in any gene and get he same odds be it Axiom, dun, black, cream etc.
For the best results breed her as many times to a homo axiom studBreeding even generation Grullos with Ice -
@SteflizStefliz yes you can get a 100% axiom foal, but there will be a bit of luck with that seeing as your mare will only pass on her axiom gene 50% of the time! (on average)Thanked by 1Stefliz

Small correction (that makes sense on paper but is easy to miss): a hom horse with a het horse has a 50% chance of hom offspring, 50% chance of het. The hom side is 100% passing on, so it's entirely up to the het horse what the foal is, in the sense that the het horse can either pass on or not pass on the gene, 50/50. Your other percentages for het/het and hom/hom are correct.ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! Whoops yes Lallyhop your correct.
Lol I was pulling numbers out of my head right after I woke up to go to work (thats what I get for answering half asleep) but yes 50% either way depending on the Het parentBreeding even generation Grullos with IceThanked by 1Lallyhop
