Can anyone help me understand some of the fantasy genes
-
So I got must of them, but mushroom and chinchilla still stump me. I own the mushroom gene but most of the foals look no different than my other foals. And I know chinchilla looks cool on silver black but how does it react with other colors? I want to buy that license when it becomes available but wanna make sure I understand it completely before I spend the money. Thanks friendsBreeder of the tallest drafts

I know the mushroom gene is based off of the gene you find in Shetland ponies. I may be wrong but when it is homozygous it looks like it darkens the base color of the coat a little I think. I have gotten the mushroom gene. That is how I think it works but I may be completely wrong on that to.

The mushroom and chinchilla genes are recessive, meaning the horse has to be homozygous (have two copies of the gene) in order for it to show. Breed those heterozygous foals (with one copy of the gene) together, and you will have a 25% chance of having homozygous offspring. Keep doing that, and your numbers of homozygous offspring will slowly increase.ID 43830
It's nice to be back! :)

This might help you understand the mushroom gene better. I didn't find anything in the faq on here. -
Chinchilla, when carrying two copies of the gene doesn't allow red pigment to show. So a red based horse would look white (i.e. chestnut, palomino, etc). Bay based colors are white with black/dark points. Brown (het At) are black with white "soft points" like muzzle, flank, etc. Black shows no effect. Basically, anywhere that is "red" on a normal colored horse.#28036
