Is there any risk?
  • Can I cross a stallion with w20, sb2, splash1 on a frame and hom splash1 mare without risk of a lethal white foal?
  • I think you should be alright, since there would only be one kit gene. Although you might get a mostly white horse.
  • there would be two kit genes since white 20 and sabino 2 are both kit genes. I would say its risky because white 20 already boosts white. Ammit also had said in the lethality post:

Remember adding splash, frame and high white factor parents to the mix greatly increases your risk of a lethal foal.

I personally wouldn't wanna risk it

  • Oh does the mare have a kit gene? The way I read the post, it was
    Stallion: W20, Sabino 2, het Splash 1
    Mare: Hom splash 1, frame

Which would give the foal either W20 or sabino 2, at least het splash, and possibly het frame.

And after a search, there are plenty of horses that are Hom splash 1, with W20 and frame with an extensive WF (over 10 pages worth).

Not nearly as many with sabino2, Hom splash 1 and frame and an extensive WF, but a search pulled up 23 horses.

  • I was thinking this mare and stallion-if no risk thought about adding kp to her but if there is risk might not waste the gmts. Thanks!

  • She does have w20 and roan kit genes but could remove one of those if they are the only thing that could cause an issue
  • Ok. Your riskiest possible outcome there is W20 Sabino 2 Hom Splash 1 Frame.

W20 Sabino 2 gives you a White Factor of 45 at the highest white factor. You would have a low chance of getting that perfect combination of genes, so I’d say it’s probably worth the risk to mate these two.

However, if you’re considering GMTing the mare anyway to make her KP, I would try to scrape up the funds to also remove at least one, possibly both of her Splash genes which will make her a lower risk to cross with Two Kit Pattern gene stallions. As it is now, all of her foals will always have Splash....

I allowed a lot of splash into my KP herd early on and I really regret it now and am trying to get rid of it. It just covers up your lovely Kit patterns and makes your breeding unnecessarily risky. I love the Frame I have in that herd though and would have it on everything if it wasn’t Hom Lethal!
