Just a quick survey

I breed draft so I have had a dilemma that has been plaguing me, especially with my Flaxen Liver horses. I have been looking at a lot of different breeds with feathers and it seems to be more often then not the color of the feathers matches the mane and tail color not the dark body color. Which is more pleasing to you? The lighter feathers or the darker feathers.

Aesthetically speaking, it’s more pleasing to the eye when it matches the body color for me. The sharp change in color just really makes my eye twitch for some reason. I guess its probably because it’s just a straight line cut off and not more blended like on real life horses.

I prefer the darker color as well.

I’m with FallenShadows714: I prefer the leg fluff to match the top of the leg. I also selectively breed and buy for solid legs with no w20 and white factor, so that’s my personal preference. It’s purely for my own aesthetic flow, rather than realistic representation. I also keep my own drafts de-floofed, as I prefer more of a Friesian look than Shire, so my two cents may not be worth much to you.
As you can change fluff color quickly, no GMTs required, I will say, the top horse is more “fun” and vibrant : ) -
I actually do like it matching the mane/tail, color-wise, but Fallen is right - the graphics cut off really sharply rather than fading, which feels a little off.ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! Isn’t there a way to make it fade? Like the top color then the bottom color... Then it would be faded and be a little more aesthetically pleasing.EasternShowBarn

I prefer the lighter but I don’t know if that’s because I used to show Clydesdales and more often than not they had white feathers even if they were bay or blackBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

I agree with everyone else. Matching the body is better as the sharp cut off is unusual looking. However I do like it when the feathers are white if there is a sock there.
-
I would also be a fan of the fade option for my wild bays.ID 43830
It's nice to be back! :)

I actually like them both but would try a fade on the light color to see if it would look more natural.

Thank you everyone for your feed back. I think I will probably keep the feathers the body color instead of the Lighter mane and tail color. I do use socks but only if the horse has them already. I like to keep with what the horse originally has because some of my lines I breed for solid color. Here are a few with socks or solid white just for everyone to see. Thank you all again.

I like the dark & matching the body. The only time I like those feet to be a different color than the body are if they are white :)
-
Ammit, I think they mean the color fade, like the middle horse above, not changing the tack to fade into the horse. :)
@fj1482 You've convinced me, lol! I love that middle horse. Definitely the route I think I'll be going when I get the pack myself. :xID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! I'm always selling straws and eggs from anything I have that catches your eye, don't hesitate to PM me and ask!
