    Because he is chestnut, the AtAt doesn't come into play. He'd need an E, which'd make him bay(brown) based for the AtAt to show. Useful for breeding browns though, since he's going to pass down a copy of that At and a sooty every time he breeds

    Ohh interesting to know! I do love brown, brown dun, brown roan..all the brown! Is it just the hom sooty then causing the rich color?

    It would be the hom sooty, yes.

    Brown is very interesting to breed. If you have only 1 copy, it's darker, but 2 is lighter in coat. However you need sooty as well as the brown for it to show, I believe. It's not something I've bred for, so maybe someone else may come along to explain exactly how to get brown?

    The lack of pangere (recessive pp) is also causing the rich color. When heterozygous or homozygous, pangere lightens the hair around the flank, hooves, and muzzle.

    Cherry-red chestnut is my favorite shade in real life. When I have more room on here I'll get around to starting a line.

    It’s interesting, a Ata buckskin is a different shade than an AA buckskin, but I’m guessing that’s becasue it is a black base color?

    Yup! Here is an explanation of different shades of bay (the agouti allele or variants of "A") Buckskin is just bay with one cream (Ccr) added. Other factors like darkening genes can affect the color as well.
