I know it’s tough but I always think of show horses as free money.
If you add up their weekly show costs and compare against their daily show bonus it doesn’t usually take them long to start to earn more even with low points. They pay you for the privilege of sitting in your barn.
On the other hand mares are a money pit.
The average mare will cost 7,500-15,000hbs throughout her life span to breed her each season (if you only pasture or hand breed her) and She can also fill up a 15stall barn with foals on her own at a base cost of 62,500hbs.
If you start collecting eggs that’s another 3,000-15,625 hbs per egg not including implanting fees.
If you leave her in the pasture her life she isn’t likely to earn back much of the 70,000 hbs she costs you because she isn’t showing to earn points. If you leave her out and only stick her in the pasture to breed she won’t get the breeding bonus and if you leave her out and hand breed her she will cost you more.
That is why it’s usually recommend to have 3 show horses per breeding horse so that the show horses cover the costs of the breeding horse.Breeding even generation Grullos with IceThanked by 1OakBranch
