There is an American Bashkir Curly Horse registry, you could probably find a ton of curly coated horses on there. Curly coats pop up from time to time in mustang herds as well.

I had a Curly Named Lilly of the Valley. They are a very different breed in looks, conformation and temperament.

My reg paint mare has a curly mane and tail. Not even sure what makes it that way but when she's all brushed and cleaned up it nearly makes ringlets. In winter she's pretty much a fuzz ball with the longest winter coat I've seen down here in Louisiana. In summer her coat is short like a normal paint.
