So I've always been interested in genetics and of course horses so discovering this game a few years ago was so awesome cause it combined those interests. I've learned so much through this game and community as well.
Now, I show American Paint Horses, which is what got me into the genetics cause I wanted to learn all the patters. APHA has a category for horses that have excess white, (regular registry) and then for horses whose parents are paints but they don't have enough visible white (solid paint bred).
For the longest time these solid horses were considered sub-par and have little value in regards to doing breed shows, which isnt right. However APHA just changed the rules to allow these horses in if there is a genetic test done to prove they carry a color gene! They test for Tobiano; Frame Overo; Sabino 1; Splash White 1, 2 or 3; and Dominant White 5, 10 or 20!
So Im looking at buying a yearling that was tested and has white 20 and I was able to explain to my trainer what that was and how it interacts with other patterns and how since his sire is Hom w20 with frame overo, with this new rule all the foals will be eligible for regular registry!
Everyone was surprised and asked how I knew so much about it and I got to give credit to this game for all of it!
So thank you Ammit and everyone else for educating me and many others on all this stuff!

That’s awesome! I have a similar story - my mom got her mare gene tested prior to breeding (now that she’s got the kids out of the house she’s getting more into her horses again) and I was able to explain what colors of foal she might get from which of a few studs she was considering after I got a chance to look over the results.
That’s my favorite part about this game - it’s not only fun, but also educational! If I ever ended up teaching biology, you can bet I’d make this game “required reading” when the class got to genetics :))ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! That is awesome. I love looking up genetics on horses. I have found out through 3 breedings that my mare is homo Tobiano. She comes from strong tobiano lines. Her sire is homo tobiano but her dam was only het tobiano. All 3 of her foals have been tobianos. She just produced a palomino and white stud colt. We just need her back to the same stud. I am hoping for a buckskin filly next year.
