Snowflake (when homozygous) needs only one copy of Lp to express. Some breeders prefer hom Lp because you can always tell if a foal has two copies of snowflake (because the foal is guaranteed to carry one Lp).

Snowflake is a hidden genome so the only way to know if a horse has it from looking is if they are hom and display it (which they can only express it if they have LP/appy as snf acts more like a mutation to the appy gene if that makes sense), if they are het you wont know unless you can confirm a parent is hom or after at least 10 breedings (more is always better) with hom snf you get a hom baby. Hom without appy wont express so sans breeding back to hom snf hom appy you might not know they are passing off snf.
