Any way to "save" this boy?
-
I have my DB2O colt who is super special because 1. He has every gene I want for my WB's and 2. He was born on my wedding anniversary
Unfortunately he papered C and tested worse than his sire. Would a breeding boost help him to pass BA? Obviously I won't try my luck on SBA. He's out of a FF mare.

I think he would pass BA with a 5% boost. But he would only be AGA his sire, never superior.ID 108Thanked by 1Firebrand

I think most people recommend trying at least BA before any boosts. He could be almost failed papered and boosting wouldn’t do much. But it’s one of those things, if he’s super special for you then do what makes you happy. Although I normally don’t do this I’ve seen people just cross their C 2Gs with foundations and build up that way.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

You could always just put him with yellow 2G girls. I have several studs that I've done that with, mostly because they were unique to my herd at the time I bred them. They're babies get full testing and I have a bunch that have passed SBA and go on to create some great foals.Thanked by 1Firebrand

Thanks so much! Unfortunately I don’t keep yellow 2nd gen girls, but maybe I need to save some back next year. It would certainly be cheaper that having to 5% boost himID#43150 | she/her

He is lovely - I would breed to foundations that is obviously his level - he will have some great foals.
Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE. -
If he's that special to you I'd boost him, then put him in a pasture with some red gen2 mares with full bonus. You may not get many intact foals but should bring the quality up for youThanked by 1Firebrand

Would a 1% boost be enough, or would it have to be the full 5% to make a difference?ID#43150 | she/her

Whatever you can afford, it's hard to know exactly how bad he is LOL, I doubt you'll boost him to B paper but every bit helps!Thanked by 1Firebrand
