Papering- Why not spayed mare papering?
  • So have noticed for a while but didn't get as curious till now. Why isn't there spayed mare papering? I can see why it wouldn't matter as much bc they are not breeding bit there is a gelding papering. So shouldn't there be a spayed mare papering?
  • The Mare papering system is based on foal performance. Obviously a spayed mare is going to have only a few if she has any at all. A mare has to have three foals before they can be papered and her papering can change as the foals she makes get better as well.
  • Ok. Gotcha. But I guess who not paper her like you do geldings? Or doesn't the papering do much? Does it pay to paper a gelding? Even though it's free.
  • That I don't know. I've never looked into papering a gelding.
  • I paper some of my geldings mostly to keep an eye on my broodmare quality. If I have a mare throwing Showable only geldings, I count that as 2 strikes in my 3 strike policy! Speaking of which, time to do some serious broodmare culling...
  • I paper all my geldings, it is free, and I know where their dam is as a brood mare. I am doing the same thing Cheers. I have been going through my mares with a few foals, and spaying those that aren't producing good breeders for my lines, unless they produce good show horses. They get to stay intact if they produce 50% or higher nice points/profit foals. It took me a while of playing before I discovered SMA. I just went through Performance, SAT, GA, and didn't see the link in MA for SMA for a long time. I had to ask someone about what it was here on the forum. So I am still going through SMA alphabetically. Spaying as recommended on my older mares. I am making documents with notes on each mare also. A LOT of notes, but it helps. Last I have to go through, and check all their foals that passed all testing, and do the same thing there.
  • Ammit added Gelding Papering just to satisfy curiosity. The longer pedigrees grow, the harder it is to get colts that are superior to their sires enough to get past both Lucas and Charlie. Players who were breeding *Star stallions placing in the top 250 on the old leaderboard, began to wonder how those colts might have papered if they hadn't been snipped, since colts can be papered at birth, while mares have to have foals on the ground. I think this was before the comparison test was added, but I could be wrong.

Stallion (and gelding) papering is based on the concrete breeding ability assigned to a colt at birth or creation. Mare's papering is based on their foals' quality as shown in part by their PT scores and in part by other factors Ammit has never revealed. If a mare is spayed by Lucas in the SAT or by Mare Advice or Smart Mare Advice, she is not going to have any foals for her potential papering level to be determined by. So, spayed mare papering is an impossibility in this game. If you come across a spayed mare with a paper level, it's because she was spayed after being papered because her paper level or Average Foal PT was worse than her dam's or only a small bit better.
