How did this colour happen?
  • I'm not really sure what happened here lol But I'm in love! I just started doing research on breeding for Liver/chocolate palomino so I'm still new to trying to figure out DP. Can someone help me figure out how I got a Liver Red Dun out of a Palomino Dun and a Silver Bay Dun? Is there DP hidden in one of the parents?

  • I suspect the DP came from the maternal side. She’s really cute!

  • Thank you! So the DP could come from the bay? Am I correct to assume all horses can carry DP?

  • No, all horses do not carry DP. DP is an untestable gene, and can only be distinguished by the affect it has on the color of the horse. I can link a page that shows examples of most color possibilities in the game. It will show you the variations DP causes when present.

  • Dp Can easily be hidden on blacks, duns and Champagne.

  • DP can occur spontaneously in any created horse, usually heterozygous DP, I believe. Should you chance to be creating from a Dark Chestnut daily herd helper, for instance, you can occasionally get a Liver Chestnut, but it rarely happens.

  • As you play more and more, you will start to see the hidden signs of a horse carrying that hidden DP gene just from looking at it in some base colors. I am usually pretty solid at seeing it in bays for instance. However, I struggle when you start to pile more than one lightening gene on a horse (so Cream, pearl, dun, champagne, silver on black based horses) and have to compare them back to “normal” expressions of the color. Your baby is a wonderful surprise!
  • DP came from the mother, through her mother. The maternal granddam is a non-sooty DP bay.
