Bored, anyone? - yet another DP discussion
-
I just went through and put my DP tattoo on all my horses that I think have DP. Does anyone want to double check me to make sure I didn't miss any? Also to make sure I didn't count any as DP that don't have it. The first link is the ones that do not have the DP tattoo. The second link is the ones that do. Let me know if I made any mistakes.
I'm going to be doing this myself as I get to it, but the purpose of this is just to give somebody something to do :)

I checked out the first 11 pages of the first link and found one that -might- be DP. You might take another look at her.

Can someone please explain how to determine which have DP? I'm a newer player and I can't figure it out. Is it het sty plus something with A? I'm stumped :-/BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)
And DP with Sooty Plus in Silver Black, Blue, Sable & Buckskin

Thanks @Haltanny!
@DuelingHawks, DP is just another darkening gene in addition to sooty. Red based horses (chestnut & palomino) will show it in the name. A horse that has homozygous sooty and het or hom DP will be a liver chestnut instead of a chestnut, or a chocolate palomino instead of a palomino. Check out Confluence's liver chart: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/51257/the-ninja-liver-chart#Item_8
In bay or black based horses, it's harder to tell. It just makes them a shade darker than they normally would be without it.ID: 16853Thanked by 1SummertreeFarms -
Liver Chestnuts and Chocolate Palominos you know are at least het DP. They need three genes to show it - hzSooty plus hetDP, or hetSooty plus hzDP. If you have a Liver or Chocolate that is het for Sooty, you know they're homozygous at DP.

Oh it is way more complicated to spot than that on E- horses.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Lol at Ammit :D Yes wild bay doesn't go darker!Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE.

Yep it's tricky - we have lots of chats on here about what has DP and what doesn't! In fact I reckon the vast majority of genetic discussion is DP related!Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE.

Darker is the wrong term completly. You can't look at how dark to tell DP on an E- horse :)Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

Thanks @Dinascar! I really wasn't sure about about that first one. What made me think she has it is her foal:
2B Fire in my Pocket 618
I'm not even really sure that that one has it. That's why I wanted a possibly more experienced eye to look over my choices. I am just getting into DP silver blacks & blue roans, and I am not very good at detecting the DP yet. As for Scorpion King, I had this discussion (linked below) and we came to the conclusion that he probably has it. Again, though, it's a really difficult color to detect DP on.

Silver/Cream etc have randomized levels of intensity.
KSB Silver Bak Babe
Silver Buckskin Roan, no sooty and no DP and darker than the above horse. Brown is probably contributing but so is silver and buckskin variations. No possible way to spot DP on that color by eye.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. I'm planning to do a lot more test breeding with Scorpion King to determine if he actually has the DP or not.ID: 16853

Yep - I think we have come to the conclusion it's quite hard :) Good luck!Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE.

I only made it through page 16 but here are some, I think. Maybe some one could double check, because I am actually really bad at spotting it : )
A bit dark for one copy of sooty, she matches up on the ninja chart:
1B Bellatrix
Kind of hard to tell with the varnish, but she looks darker than other AtAt SstySsty browns. Compare to her mom.

@RipshinCreekFarm thank you! I'm actually super excited about that first one, ExPros with DP are always exciting! I am sure she has it, since I checked and she had a hom DP foal by a het DP stallion. I'm not 100% on the second one yet, but I'm going to look at more examples of browns. Brown is tricky.ID: 16853
-
I only looked through the chestnuts because my eyes aren't really trained for DP with any other color yet, but I'm pretty sure this girl is.

@CWScowgirl87 I have several browns (and bays) with DP. You can check my stable for examples. ID 28036 & tattoo pyramid.#28036

For anyone who is interested, supersarah helped me out with some test breeding on Scorpion King. The first foal she got was a liver colt out of a hom sooty chestnut mare. So he is now confirmed het DP. :)
