    Just a little question I can't answer myself, but I will gladly look it up if you point me in the right direction! What is the difference between S+ and Ssty? Is S+ known as something other than sooty? Is it rarer? Is there any connection to DP? (Which I understand is "hidden"?) Thanks in advance!

    Sooty+ used to be a rare gene, but it is now more common. There are over 15k horses with it in this game at present.

    It darkens the coat from the top-line, like ordinary sooty, but it is usually more intense and generally gives a distinctive dappled effect.

    S+ is a limited edition gene. It does not appear on its own in any new create (the way regular Ssty does). The only ways to get it are to GM it onto a foundation or to breed to a horse that has it. It costs 20 GMTs to add it to a foundation.
    Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses. Liver chestnut, DP mushroom, and rose gray riding horses. Dun cobs with all the patterns. Watercolor, Wrong Warp and ice on mixed body types.

    It also tends to react dramatically to dp sometimes, especially in the darker coats. This girl is hom sooty (one S+), het dp and het brown so is pretty dark already. But look at that colouring!

    (It's been sort of implied in the answers, but in general when people are talking about S+ instead of just normal sooty, we say S+ or Sooty +).

    Kind of. You need three darkening genes on a chestnut to get a liver (on palomino to get chocolate). This can be two copies of dp and one copy of sooty, or usually two copies of sooty and one copy of dp. When you have four darkening genes (2 dp 2 sooty) you can get an even darker coat, with livers being called black livers because they do look black.
