Always had a spot for Silver Black drafts so when I got a silver black HH I decided to start another line :D

I noticed a lot of colour variation though which got me thinking.
How can you tell if a silver black has DP?
Do any of these have dp?
Why do some have no dapples, some have light and others have dark dapples?
What gene causes dapples? Or is it just a random thing?

From what I understand, dp works on the red pigments that a horse has. So if a horse is black, then you cannot tell if it has dp.

Ssty has been known to cause dapples by itself, as well as silver.

I have a theory on silver blacks with dp... Some silver blacks get a red tinge to them. I am thinking this is when they carry dp. Ill get some examples

Have you rerolled any of the silver blacks? I have rerolled and gotten dapples and no dapples on the same horse. I don't remember if the grey vs red tone changed, but that would be where I would start: Does tone change with rerolled images?

Silver is a gene that causes dapples to appear more often. So I wouldn't count on dapples to indicate if they have DP or not.

It would be better to breed the maybe dp horses to a known no DP chestnut if you want to test for DP.
