Exceptional Producers Help!
-
Curious how these "exceptional producers" work! I recently bought an EP stud and had created some new perfect foundie mares...they're my last breeders of this season, but surprisingly their foals were all only show grade. Can EPs only breed to EPs for the foals to pass the breeding quality tests? Perfect Foundations isn't enough? How do you use these types of horses more effectively in your breeding programs?

I'd like to know too. I just created an Expro White 1 Stud. Unfortunately I have no available mares right now.
Exceptional Doc -
You can never guarantee an intact foal but exceptional producers and exceptionally perfect horses have 105% breeding ability whereas perfect foundations and TNPs only have 100%.
To maximise success try breeding to ExP horses, some rank specials are also ExP :) -
Exceptional producers are technically higher then PF horses so you will get foals who will be altered. I have a few exceptional horses as well pair with PF mares. One thing you can do to possibly help is make sure the mares have a full pasture bonus or as close as you can get. You will still get foals who get altered as with any match. You can also only run goals through BA instead of SBA. Exceptional producers are low B or low reds so in order for foals to pass SBA they have to be close to that to stay intact. If you use just BA it's a little easier on the foals and may leave more intact.

I've gotten numerous intact foals from ExPro stud x PF and TNP mares with 12+ days in pasture. I also get intact foals out of ExPro mares from PF quality studs.#28036Thanked by 1SummertreeFarms

I don't want to sound like it's not possible, it absolutely is. My Nanotech stallion is a great example. He's an exceptional stallion matched with PF and regular creates. His mares have full pasture bonus and I run all foals through SBA and this year only 4 out of 30 were altered. That is not unusual for him.

There is also the fact that you may have just gotten rotten rolls of the breeding dice. If you haven't already, check out this thread from ages ago that explains lower scoring foals: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/10182/general-information-showing-vs-breeding#Item_2

This is an experiment that Ammit done. You'll be wanting to look at test 3 and test 4 for a cross between the PF and Expros. But any horse that you do get intact should have been well worth the time.

Thanks guys! Wow those tests Ammit did were very enlightening! Pasture bonus counts for a lot it looks like.
