SMA question
-
Mares that pass Strict advice are good breeders but are they TNP quality? Is there a good comparison such as,TNP, PF, etc.?
-
No.
Any mare that passes SMA is not quite as good as, as good as, or better than her dam. It is as strict as GA but you can still get intact inferior colts and fillies after GA and SMA.
With foundations they are tested against an unknown prototype dam and I don't think anyone but Ammit really knows how good they are. -
Okie dokie. Thank you!
-
I think the new SMA is slightly stricter than GA?
-
I thought it brought it up to the same strictness, but regardless it is my understanding there will still be intact inferior foals of both sexes after free testing.
-
Yeh as per the OP question, if spays fillies significantly worse than their dams so doesn't guarantee a certain quality. If fact an intact filly might just mean the mare herself is really bad so SMA didn't spay the filly lol!
-
@kintara Good point. I had forgotten that part. Most of my current pasture mares are PF so I am hoping to eliminate that option.
