Does this Mare have DP?
-
Hi, so I think I read somewhere that DP makes bays a more reddish color, so I assumed that this girl had it... but I am starting to second guess myself. Her mother is liver, and her sire is a buckskin, and I have no reason to believe he has it, so it is fifty fifty weather she has it. If it can't be told with this color I understand, but as she is a three year old I am getting more curios. All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

DP does make wild bays blood red and does interesting things to bright bays too! That may be what you're remembering.

Thnks! I found a horse that looks kinda like her from a black liver parent... but also regular sooty +s as well. Thanks everyone! I did get a liver filly from her mother, so I know that one has it!All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

Well if it helps, I found this filly who looks almost identical in color (ignoring the appy varnish).
And you look at her pedigree, there is no evidence that she could carry DP. She's also Ssty S+. I wonder if your mare is het DP, and that adds the same degree of darkness that Ssty adds to this filly. When you look at chestnuts, Ssty Ssty DP livers look almost identical to Ssty DP DP livers, and Ssty Ssty chestnuts look almost identical to Ssty DP chestnuts. Just a thought.
